  • I Am Just So Frustrated Right Now

It seems no matter what I do this group well 3 in particular can not keep it to inside voices. I have done many things and it doesn't matter what we are doing, table activities, lunch I am so frustrated on top of it 2 of them get loud and start to get rough with things and doeant phase them when they cant play with toys. I just so frustrated right now I have done daycare for over 20 years and deal with this but not to this extent where kids don't listen or for long. Thanks for listening not really a question more of a vent.

I have similar issues where I’m simply astonished at some of the behaviors

Sending hugs. What I noticed with my group is that they’re constantly being entertained by their parents. Like 24/7 and not given the opportunity to be bored. So I set a timer for 30 min and they nonstop changed activities and for one of the slots THEY had to play by themselves. I started with 10 min and then kept expending it and they finally caught on.

That constant 24/7 entertainment by parents leads to clueless kids when it comes to solo play too. I have one little one (will be 4 in May) that will literally sit in the playroom and stare at me. If I ask what they need, the child will say "nothing" or will show me a block from or toy from the massive pile in front of them that they should be playing with as if to say "hey..why aren't you playing WITH me right now?" Its so aggravating at times. 1 maybe 2 of my kiddos can actually entertain themselves for a few minutes.

Yes, BC, NO processing skills, NO imagination, No anything, simply empty.....and I believe it starts in the home. In the past these children were few, but now these children are the norm....I find that every day is a MONDAY for me anymore.

Yes to all of the posts....just this morning, I raised my voice multiple times and I thought "I know I'm not supposed to scream/yell/holler but NO ONE listens or hears you if you don't." Too many 'blank stares' from these kids focused only on themselves.....really sad, frustrating, etc.

I am old school. I flash the lights on and off and have, on occasion, used my coach's whistle.

I have been tempted to do the "Air Raid" drop, but the timing may not be all that good.

My kids have been obnoxiously loud lately. I’ve raised my voice to tell them to quiet down three times in the last 10 minutes

When I want my own DD to listen, I whisper. But that doesn’t work on the DCK.

I know it is not possible in all settings, but have you tried resetting the day? It really does work.

I toss the napmats out, turn off the lights, turn on the sound machine and send them to "nap". I wait 15 minutes, reading a book at my desk, then allow them to get back up.

If it starts escalating, again, I reach for the mats and they all get quiet. I then give a huge smile and the double thumbs up they love to see.

I put small rugs around the room, each with an activity on it. One child goes to each rug, and I set a timer for 8-10 minutes. When the timer goes off, they put their pieces back into the basket/bin, and they rotate to the next rug and repeat. It takes a little time to get the routine down, but it’s such a great part of the day. They have to learn to play/work alone. I usually have some soft music playing, too. The kids LOVE “activity time”.

That is exactly how my playroom is set up. Nothing works better, IMO.

Thanks everyone I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with this. I do what some of you do setting napmats out and it works but not for long. What really works well most of the time is kids have to earn to be able to stay up during nap time and do quiet rest, so if they dont earn then they go in with nappers and they don't like that but most of the time they end up falling asleep and are better later in the day.

Some days I feel the need to micro-manage; I call it 'structured FREE PLAY?? Ya do what you have to do! I have some carpet squares which works well but I find the hands of children just cannot stay to themselves and their eyes are always watching what others have, never focused on anything else.
