We have one child at our center who wears dresses or skirts every day and unfortunately is also allowed to do whatever she wants to at home, She back talks us at school, tells us no constantly, if another child has something she takes it, if doesn't get her way she has a completed and utter meltdown and if you threaten her with anything she has a screaming fit. Weve told mom she has to wear shorts under her skirts and sometimes she does but one the days she doesn't she will not keep her legs down. We've even told her that if she doesn't that she will have to wear shorts and she has a conniption fit over it. We've talked to mom without nothing being done and the excuse of well she didn't want to because of whatever.

I’d keep spare shorts at daycare and have her wear them. If she refuses to put them on I’d limit the activities she can participate in until she complies.
As an employee, I’d be upset your director isn’t addressing the non-compliance with the mom.

If she arrived without appropriate clothing, I'd send her home. Every time.

The teacher that has her literally has gone & got her shorts to put on and she has a complete and utter meltdown over it & we've got another child exactly like her that wears NO shorts under her dresses as well. We've thought about talking to her mom as well but I don't know if it will change anything.

Here's an interesting and weird thing we've all learned about in the past month:

        1) Dcp1 is married and has kids that come to the center two is older and one is younger and became friends with two other parents whose kids also attend.
2)Dcp2 is also married and has kids that come to the center and at one time worked with us & was fired for reasons regarding her performance and interaction with the children.
        3) Dcp2 moved in with dcp1 and their kids so did the spouse of dcp2.
        4) Dcp1 and their spouse is getting divorced so is Dcp2.
5)Dcp 1 & dcp2's spouse is getting together and getting married.

Dcp1&2 come into the center almost daily & speak about it to us and we just let them talk. This is the reason dcp1 got let go from their job is because they kept talking about it around the children and it was very inappropriate

I'd make it simple with the kid, she wears the shorts or she does not wear the dress. The dress would go in the cubby and she'd wear her spares.

Why can't you guys enforce the dress code with the parent?

Cat Herder we don't have a dress code, all we ask parents is they send their child is things that are play wear and most parents do except for this one parent unless it's winter and then she sends her in leggings. Today was rough on rough with this kid because it was all day kicking, hitting etc and she got a sad face again. When she leaves she will most definitely leaves a mark there. It's kinda like it's her way or no way either with us or at home.
