  • dcm that gave me my most recent notice asked " can he please come one day a week from now on"..... I said "sure", then I quoted the weekly price and she said "I can't do that" and I said "well I guess he can't come then" So over this game clients play. She text this morning and said 'we just got up so I guess I will have to keep him home since we can't make the morning cutoff"....me: "Have a good day! "

    • I've learned the hard way that when you allow something once, it's expected every single time. I probably seem so strict to my dcf, but that's what happens when you get burned over and over.....and over

      • In our local news a teacher is being removed from the classroom for zip-tying a kid.

I want to clarify that I do, in fact, use zip ties in my classroom BUT not on the kids themselves. I use them as an addition to the safety lock on the baby gates if I need to run to the restroom. They are clipped off when I return to the room. Sometimes I add them to the art cabinet doors if I have a kids who is proficient at bypassing baby proofing. Just a secondary toddler protection, nothing more.

I cannot believe any grown person would see zip ties in another teachers desk drawer and make the leap to infinity that they must be ok to use on children. Craziness.

One has to wonder how long it will take for the "no zip ties" email to reach us, now.

        • I am barely able to function today, I am so glad half are leaving right after lunch to attend some festival downtown.

I had another ocular migraine with aura this morning while making breakfast. It lasted over an hour. My heartrate went through the roof and my 02 sats went lower than I'd like to admit. I can only see directly in front of me, all peripheral vision is gone and I still need my sunglasses indoors three hours later. I am exhausted, shaky and short of breath.

I don't drink, smoke or eat poorly and have exactly 0 of the known risk factors for this. It is beyond frustrating.

6 more hours here, then I have to work tonight for 6 more. I will be spending this weekend on the couch.

I have not researched botox for migraines, not even sure how or where that would be given. I have had one visual disturbance per day for the last 4 days. It is beyond stressful, no warning, no trigger, over an hour long followed by exhaustion, photophobia and eye pain. There is no headache at all. I don't know what is going on, I had only ever had one before and that was almost a year ago. Of course, no specialist is available because of COVID and my PP just blows it off as women's troubles. He said there is no treatment other than rest and avoiding triggers. Whatever that means.

        • It always bothers me but never surprises me….when the families/kids you work the hardest with and spend the most time on are the ones that give you their butts to kiss in the end. I sat in hours and hours with of meetings for this kid, modifying every part of my program for him, endured a whole calendar year of his screeching, hitting, kicking, refusal to eat or sleep, derailing every activity….alternately comforting his mom while she cried over his behavior and being the receipient of her snark and rudeness….for them to yank him out in the last month of the year without so much a goodbye or picking up his belongings, let alone a thank you. It just sucks.

            • Had a dcb that did something he knows he wasn't supposed to do at pick-up. It's something I'm very strict about, but it's so small, that dcp would think I was crazy if I said something in front of them.

Dcb just stared at me and did a half smile as he was standing in a place he wasn't supposed to stand.

I hate when dck think my rules don't matter anymore when their parents come.

He's going to be real upset when he has to sit in a corner outside while all the other kids are playing tomorrow.

Not listening is NOT something small. The rule might be but the fact that DCB KNEW and STILL CHOOSE to break the rule is not small and is something the child should have a consequence for. If kids here break a rule just because they think their parent is present and they can, i have consequences as well. Listening is important and that is the issue I'd focus on IF the parent says anything to you about the situation.

            • Have a little one just starting and although she's been better each day, it's been rough. Mom thought she'd help ease the stress at drop off by sending the child in with a sheet of glittery stickers. Now instead of sobbing quietly in the book corner, she's sprawled out on the floor of the kitchen area screaming "Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine" because I took them away. Thanks mom!!

Got another DCK that is heading off to Kindy go to a Family Fun Day at the local YMCA over the weekend and break his foot. Now he's hobbling around on crutches being a super trooper about it while his sister (who drives me bonkers) thinks it's her job to basically be his shadow. I think it's great she's trying to be helpful but it would be even greater if that were her true motive. In reality she just wants ALL the attention and can't stand to be considered one of the daycare kids. I knew I'd be sorry for agreeing to take her this last week before school.

              • I swear, does anyone even read the handbook before they sign the contract?! It even states on the contract that they SIGNED that they read and agree to the policies!
I just don't get it. Read before you sign! AARGGH!!!

                • Sparkles unfortunately most don't and the ones that do still ask questions we've even posted signs on the doors and on our social media page about events that we have at the daycare plus holidays that we are closed. They even have gone as far as asking how much they owe for the weeks tuition

I do! Took me 20+ years of being appalled but now I tell it like it is...to the parents..to my Director as well😉

We've been trying. Change your mindset. They are taking energy and time away from your family. Bring out your mama bear.

                    • Has anyone else noticed that on 3 day weekends, kids that are normally picked up early on Friday tend to stay later?

I literally just watched a dad drive past my house. No, they don’t live near me… WTH?!???

                        Every. Single. Time.

I have had a parent pull in, then back out and come back four hours later with a haircut and color. Their kid saw them and cried until they fell asleep, I let them sleep. Kid had spent the morning telling us she was going home after lunch to go to the movies.

Why?? How ridiculous is that?! Did you say anything to the parent??
