  • Dcb has been with me since he turned 18 months. He turns two next month. Every single day he has been here is a never ending battle to keep toys out of his mouth. Every time he raises a toy to his mouth, I firmly say, “Toys OUT of mouth.” If he does it again, I take the toy away and repeat the phrase. I’ve now started immediately removing the toy—no reminders. It is still non stop….zero improvement. 😖

At least you can take a toy away. My Dcgs 4 and 2 have started chewing on their hair.

I can’t stand to see hair-chewing! This one also has 3 fingers in his mouth most of the day….I tell him every time, “Fingers OUT of mouth.”

  • Monday/Tuesday were the last day for my "problem family" Little girl came sick on Monday, went home at 12:30. Didn't come back Tuesday. I had just gotten over the LAST cold from this family, and got this one too. Spent my birthday felling like crud and not able to breath. Mom wants to "stop back by" and grab kids stuff and let her say goodbye to friends. Nope. Please stay away from me.

    • Tornado warning just ended...had a kid show up that normally isn't here till 7:45 during the warning.....my eyes were saying not nice things and dcd said 'wanted ot get him here before you lost power in case you closed'. Does that make any sense?

And then one text to come in at 9 and another to come in at 10. I have NEVER allowed that EVER!!!! The storm ended in plenty of time for them to be here! Crazy!!! BTW....I said NO, the cut-off remained the same as the storm ended in plenty of time for them to be here.

Do any of these parents make sense? lol! I almost would have been tempted to ask DCD to explain that logic. Just to hear what he came up with.

I had one this morning that allowed her child to bring in a stuffed toy from home. Said child wasn't cooperating getting ready to go this morning and since it was so cold out, parent allowed them to grab their stuffed toy and bring it in. Um no. Of course, big tantrum in the entry-way when I wouldn't allow it.
Not sure what being cold out has to do with it.

My bet is that he wanted to give himself a plausibly long window to pick up in case you closed. By his kid already being there, he could not be denied that hour or so to run his errands before he had to come back. Also, to make sure you fed the kid a hot breakfast before he got the call to pick up. He did not want to.

They act like we have not heard it all before. Glad the storm has passed.

That is what I was thinking too, give him more time to run his errands.

    • DCB8 shows his sister DCG4 how to open the childproof gate that I use to keep kids out of the kitchen. Now she is walking through whenever she wants, which I have explained to her a few times that she needs to ask first. When she goes through, she lets the little one through. To top it off she tried to explain to ds3 and DCG2 how to open the gate. He was told not to show anyone when he learned how.

      • Yesterday we had a pretty heavy snow fall. My husband and I arrived at the daycare early to take care of snow removal.
Several parents I expected to arrive early either didn't show up at all or were an hour or more late.

FFW to this morning and I arrive on time. 2 families that are scheduled for drop off later (8:30/9:00) arrived at the same time I did... another family that is scheduled for first drop off didn't show up. Family scheduled for second earliest drop off was an hour late. So I have missing kids, early kids that are late and late kids that are early and one that has pooped twice within the first hour of being here.

Oh and the neighbor across the street that never shovels or removes snow tries to park in my freshly plowed spaces (for daycare families) because why not?
It's a public street but he77 no!!! I have zero issues walking right out to their car and telling them to move. So I did.

Icing on the chaos cupcake this morning..... I get an email thanking me for my re-newed membership for iFit. For $350!! Um, no!! Good thing, I am a child care provider and understand the importance of record keeping. Had to show proof of the email stating I did not wish to re-new so they would refund what they shouldn't have charged me in the first place.

I'm thinking it's going to be a long day.....

I never even considered having neighbors parking in front of my house, blocking my clients. That would not go over well, at all, I'd let the new bull handle it for me. Sorry you have to deal with that.

      • It is 11 AM and I am just having my first cup of coffee.

        • I have 3 in diapers…2 infants and one toddler. Yesterday I changed SIX poopy diapers. 3 of those were by 9:00 AM. I would’ve vented about this yesterday, but I was too busy changing poopy diapers.

          • There is a temp of 16 degrees today so recess is canceled until it warms up however we still have to go out for the bus. - DCG came with no snow pants and leggings again. DCB8 comes in with no snow pants, no boots, no hat, no gloves, no mask for school, but with an attitude starting with refusing to let me take his temp. Both of them are blaming dcm for not having snow pants.
Time to stop stalling and send dcf a warning letter that if dcg comes without again they go home.

              • We are very short handed, teacher is quitting tomorrow, can't get anyone to work and employees are getting sick left and right with a stomach bug plus we're having to turn people away who need childcare and the owners are putting the center up for sale again. 2021 hasn't been all bad just the daycare industry has gone to crap

I've gotten so many calls lately about child care centers closing on short notice and parents asking if I can take their kids. Reasons for closures are COVID outbreaks in staff and/or children or centers not having enough staff to stay within ratios. Staff people call in sick in the morning and the center is left short staffed and having to close...such short notice for parents but I totally understand when the center has no choice.

2021 has definitely been tough for child care centers. It makes me glad I am an in-home facility. I've had so many parents say the same as I haven't had to deal with classroom outbreaks or staff shortages.

              • Weaning kids off the bottle, and most notably the *bottle feeding schedule*, is miserable, thankless work.

                There I said it.

Hope your day is going well!

Since you give formula for 24 months, do you take the bottle away at 12 months?

Oh, it is a short-lived thing. lol! That little pleading face, though, they just don't understand why I am being so mean to them. "You gave a bottle to her, why not me, too? Sippy cups are stupid. I am the favorite, right?"

              • Does anyone have a possessive parent?

I've got a dcm who thinks that because her child was my first dck, that she's the whole reason I have a daycare. She doesn't like to share me. She has turned people away from me.

A few weeks ago another dcp raved about me, and this dcm said "oh, well I rave about you, too. But then not really. I tell everyone "we don't need any more! We're full!""

It's so strange and drives me bonkers. Her last kid is in my care, and was supposed to age out next year for KG. Well, she misses the new cut off date by a few weeks, so now she's staying another year. I'm so bummed and was looking forward to not having this parent as a client anymore

We? Does she have a mouse in her pocket? 😂 If her child turns five, I’d cut her loose because of the child’s age. But that’s just me.

Yes, she says "we" for everything! I always make a point to say "I" and "me" when speaking to her just for this reason.

I wish I could cut her loose, but there is no where for her kid to go. I know that's not my problem, but I do accept kids until they start KG, then no more. She is on my lower rate though, so since I was expecting to fill that spot with a higher paying client, I was thinking I should raise her to my new rate.

Sparkles do it so you don’t regret not doing it. I’ve noticed that about 4/5, the kiddos start to get on my nerves a bit more. 😅
