I find it odd and frustrating that Wednesday is the busiest day of the week I have every week, yet only half my DC parents actually work Wednesdays.
I don't have issues with them bringing their kids when they aren't working but I do have issues with the irregular schedules they keep because THEY themselves are off on Wednesday's.
Their kids are dropped off cranky, irritable and totally off their normal routines. Sometimes by only few minutes but as we all know routine is so important.
One mom always tries to sneak in some extra face time cuddling with her kiddos but then loads them up and dumps them off and since the oldest child is only 3.5 neither understand why the day that started so lazy and fun at home suddenly morphs into being at daycare. They almost ALWAYS miss morning snack so of course when they get here they think it's time to sit/eat and when it's not the chain of events make every Wednesday basically a shit show. *sigh*
These parents are killing me lately.

Mom and I were having this discussion from a 'boundaries/routine' standpoint this morning. There is little to NONE of within the home....total culture shift.....EVERY DAY is a MONDAY, it seems!!!! Teachers, in the past, would tell me 'if I could teach kids to sit/follow direction, then she could teach them'. Sorry about their luck because that is rarely, if at all, happening now.....too difficult and too many days, I'm just too drained to enforce ANY THING!!!! I have succumbed to limiting many things....I rarely get out of a structured atmosphere because 'free play' means 'circus/zoo time' and I just can't do that!!!!

You have just described my entire summer to come. Most of the kids have at least one parent at home the whole time (school system). The kids will all be here, though, just at the last minute before cut-off time, having missed breakfast.
The kids will stay until close (530) because the parent is not on the way home from work (3ish), anymore. They can leave later or have the late parent pick up. No one wants to work summer school this year, so there will be no reprieve.
Oh, how I am dreading it.

These comments remind me of something that has been bugging me lately. I will never understand why parents don't want to spend time with their kids. It seems to be really bad lately. I won't go into specific stories, but I just don't get it. I swear, if I was open on weekends, I would still have most of my group. It also seems like I have some families who have the attitude of "well, I'm paying for it, so I'm going to use it." I'm taking a pretty large income loss this summer, just so I CAN spend time with my kids. I just don't understand.

My theory is that the government has put so much effort into teaching young people that kids belong in daycare. "Quality". "Early Education". "Preschool" None of that was a thing 20 years ago. Children being home with one parent during early childhood to bond as part of the family and community was the goal of parenting. Strong families. Daycare (subsidy) was for poor people who had to have double incomes to survive. Other than poor people, daycare (private) was a luxury for parents who simply did not want to be bothered or were not good with kids. Eventually, the states need for Federal Funding to prop up other defunct programs led them to us as a cash cow. "Universal Care." Get the parents out of parenting and into paying more taxes. Program the young and program them early. Take the businesses women built, again, make them pay for the privilege of working. Read A Mothers Job; The History of Daycare. You won't regret it.

Off-topic, but I feel so dumb about not knowing how to comment on people’s posts. I only see “post reply” at the bottom. Maybe it’s because I’m on my phone?

Now, my silly question is......I would like to know how to put emojis on a 'comment' to another post????

Family have had since the child was six weeks old (now she’s 2) is telling me they get up with her in the middle of the night multiple times because she throws tantrums. Now my parenting style is since the child is two years old and not an infant they don’t need to constantly check up on the child and give in to her crying. I would tell my child one time that it’s bedtime and close the door and Not open the door till morning. I have a 3yr old son that i did this with and he is a great sleeper. He realized I wasn’t giving in to his fake crying and doesnt even try me anymore lol. When I asked the parent what they do when she starts throwing a tantrum the mom told me , in the most babyish voice, “mommy and daddy love you” and they sit in the room with her. And will be up with her from like midnight to 2am. This child isnt getting enough sleep and its causing issues in my daycare. She screams at me all the time thinking I will coddle her like her parents.

The amount of parents that tell me they wake up with their children in the middle of the night is crazy to me, too! I have 3 that regularly tell me “DCB got me up at 3 AM this morning.” 2 of my 3 regulars also let their children sleep in bed with them.
My girls were on their own at 15 months. Mom and Dad do not get up in the middle of the night anymore 😂

"So did you make it out this morning too"
Asked by, one parent several times this week.
Now I've already explained to all the families that unfortunately with my kids being at home do to their school having gone virtual for the time being that we don't have time to make it outside in the AM.
Kids get here between 7 to 8 am, also still chilly in morning at this time. Between 8 to 9 i have to feed snack, check my kids school stuff to see if anything is posted and any messages for the day. Also do bum changes right before 9am. Then at 9:15 my 8 year old signs onto class in the room next to the daycare he is on till his lunch time at 11:50 (15min break given in am). At 930 my youngest signs on to class in the daycare room, I then have to balance keeping 4 dks quite but happily playing (ages 1,1,2,3), but not distracting the 5 yearold from his lesson that can last 1 hour. Some days he signs on again at 10:40 for another lesson that last 40min tops, closer to 30. By then I have to get lunch ready or get ready to reheat the lunch I made sometime before school started. Dks eat at 11:30, and go for nap at 11 50 ish when I clear out my oldest from the other room where pack n plays are set up for under 2s beds.
In there when the youngest doe not have 2 morning classes I do have about 20 or 30 min where I could mabey get them out but I won't push myself that way. My mornings are already to much.
I get to follow that with a bit of a break because the kids on good days sleep 2 hours. So at least afternoon lesson for the youngest at 12:50 is less disturbed by the little ones. But by the time I do clean up, school work check for the oldest my break times done and I'm back to school stuff.
I did tell the school that neither of my kids would be attending their afternoon gym class. No way in he'll do I want then thudding in the floor above the Littles ones. Also thankfull I don't have policy's having me stay on same level. I do have a monitor or check regularly.

Parents always act like they don’t have the option of being outside on their time and expect you to provide all outdoor time.
I usually ask parents “Don’t you have ‘outside’ at your house?”
It is definitely annoying as I love being outside but due to multiple kids, multiple needs and multiple situations throughout the day I don’t always get as much outside time as I’d like but I just hate the notion that it’s simply expected that we do it so parents don’t have to do it.

The worst part is every single one of them wear warned that this could happen. If my kids school shut down that this was reality. It was like this after Christmas but back then weather was cold and frezzeing.
I tò wish I was outside because then my kids would be in school.

Ok what is Wrong with my daycare parents. What is with spending 10 to 15 minutes in my driveway after they picked up their kid ,what are you doing??? Put your kid in the car and go, it should take less than a minute maybe two minutes. Like today,, The parent already has the 4yr old kid in the car but they’re standing in the doorway I don’t know what they’re doing with their child but it happens every single day. Why are people having so much trouble taking control of their children these days? Just go home! I wish I could have a policy that says please don’t spend more than two minutes in my driveway.

An OT vent. Washed my bedding yesterday and hung it outdoors; love that fresh air smell of a fresh bed. What I don't like is getting stung in the middle of the night.
But my dog, Holly, earned her keep for the week by finding that nasty bugger this morning for me.

Yesterday, my daughter had a ball game at 6, we have to be there at 5:40 so she can warm up. We are about 8 minutes from the park.
I had all the kids ready to go and STANDING at the front door, clue number one. DCM pulls up about 5:18, she’s on the phone, sees her child standing at the door and motions 1 min. No big deal, I still had one more family. DCB lost his sh!t because mom wasn’t coming quick enough to get him. Backstory: DCB is two and DCM still carries him in, takes his shoes off for him and puts them up for him) Anyways, she finally comes to the door, with her business call, finally gets off of it probably at 5:24ish. I am standing in the door way with the door open, give her a quick update on his day & tell DCB bye - clue 2/3. About that time, my last family pulls up. I send DCD’s kiddos out the door to him. As I’m trying to tell the other parent about his children’s day, she’s trying to talk to me about her work issue and her plans for Memorial Day Weekend! 🤬 I finally looked at her and said “DCM please shoot me a text I really have to go!” she said “oh okay!”
HOW DID SHE NOT TAKE THE HINTS!? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind chatting with my families at all. But if it’s obvious I have some place to go and I’m standing at the door, something I RARELY DO, take your kid and go! 🤬
