One of my toddlers has started biting. 😖 I haven’t dealt with biting in years. I’ve been keeping the child separate from the others if I have to be more than an arm’s reach away….taking them with me to assist other children in the bathroom, placing them in a pack & play with toys near the kitchen while I make meals, etc., but today all it took was a few seconds while I brought lunch plates into the playroom, and a child was bitten. Ugh!!

Scenario A: Drunk Mother driving erratically at high speeds, terrifying her teens enough that they call 911 = Misdemeanor.
Scenario B: Daycare Provider puts on halloween mask, terrifying kids enough that they tell their parents = Misdemeanor
...and I have not even made it through page one of my "headlines" this morning. I am done with this planet for the day.

I get the halloween mask was scary as I saw that, too, but how many of these complaining parents let their kids watch the same scary masks on TV, Video games, etc. I shook my head when that come across my phone! Crazy stuff! You could see that mask at a football game!!! I didn't read further to see if they were terrorizing the kids but come on!!!Last edited by Annalee; 10-20-2022, 09:18 AM.

IMO, What the daycare providers did should get them fired. What the mom did should get her time and supervised visitation. But: "Former employees Sierra McCandless, Oci-Anna Kilburn, Jennifer Newman and Shyenne Shelton each face three counts of felony child abuse, and Traci Hutson faces failure to report abuse and simple assault against a minor, both misdemeanors, WTVA reported."

I didn’t read it and went by the pics with the headline. I just know what Has happened with my own family with the scare tactics all in fun with the family kids. And I have spent the entire week listening to dcb4 talk about watching chuckie.

Ugh, I just watched the unedited videos from my last post.
This is why we can't have nice things. The mean girls from high school.... as daycare providers. Teens did this to us as kids, would like to know their ages.

If you are gonna do something stupid don't video it...videos NEVER go away! . insert 'oh my goodness' emoji

I left Thursday after daycare to go to a child care conference 2.5 hours away. Enjoyed it, had an awesome time with good trainings and seeing people was nice. Saturday evening, about an hour from home, the transmission went out on my car........I called some friends I knew in that city so they gave me the number of a reputable wrecker service.......so I'm trying to figure out if I am comfortable riding in the wrecker home, having someone to come get me, and the people I knew from there offered to pick me up and follow the wrecker home. I watch too many LIfetime movies for this
But when the wrecker service arrived the man was just like my uncle that passed....talked about his wife, kids, grandkids so I made it home safely!
Turns out my warranty for my transmission which I had worked on last year date is 10/21/21 so I'm calling Monday morning because it was 10/22/22 when it went out. Hoping for good results Monday. If not, I've decided to leave it alone for a while. Just want to unwind and think about it.
Ironically, I called my mom when I left Saturday to come home and told her I wasn't feeling right, a little overanxious and out of breath. i called my kids to make sure they were ok and they were. The whole evening was odd for me but all seems well now.

Sounds like a busy, stressful yet nice weekend. Crossing my fingers the auto shop you use is kind and understanding for you…. Stay positive! 🥰

The transmission place told me to have my explorer brought there and it would fall under warranty...... praying all goes well!!! I almost dropped it off on the way back with the wrecker there but I wasn't sure about my warranty dates so I had it brought home.Last edited by Annalee; 10-24-2022, 07:02 AM.

My DCKs are so bad today! I'm starting to convince myself that I just really suck at this job because I don't know how so many kids can behave so badly all the time! I'm mentally exhausted!

I complain about this all time....but I swear, no one reads the handbook!
Had a dcd ask about switching days next month. Dcb is contracted for T-F, but one week wants him to come Monday instead of that Friday. I explained to him that it would be a drop-in and only if I had a spot that day. I think he still doesn't understand that he'll have to pay for Friday, too - I don't allow families to switch days. All of this is laid out very clear in the first part of my handbook which is always available via an app.
Maybe they know, and just hope that I'll be pressured to give in when theu ask. Either way, it's frustrating

Why did I just have to take a big handful of coins away from dcg(4yrs) at the door and give it to mom and tell her bringing things like that to daycare is a bad idea??Last edited by littlefriends; 10-26-2022, 06:10 AM.

When it comes to describing reasons that people are prevented from participating in the labor force, Alabama women are more likely to cite family responsibilities than men, said Alexander Ruder of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta during the second meeting of the Alabama Workforce and Wage Gap Task Force,
Ruder, a senior policy advisor and principal Community and Economic Development Team adviser, shared that 4.9% of women not working in the state shared that family responsbilities kept them from work, compared to only .7% of men who weren’t working.
Ruder said labor force participation rates have dropped among women nationwide in recent years, and added that for women in Alabama, there are “increased burdens, particularly relative to men on family responsibilities and childcare.”
During both task force meetings, members and speakers have addressed how child care can impact a parents’ ability to participate in the labor force.
According to data from the Bipartisan Policy Center, Alabama has a 40% child care gap, or supply versus need for care.
More than 214,000 children have both available parents in the work force in Alabama, meaning that there is a potential need for child care. According to the report, there are 128,960 slots in legally operated and state-recognized care providers, leaving 85,550 children without supplied care.
The report also noted that Alabama ranked second in the percentage of children with all parents in the labor force in poverty.
Linda Smith, the director of the Early Childhood Development Initiative at the Bipartisan Policy Center, said an aging work force in child care services contributes to the gap, but also noted that low wages and benefits cause struggle for workers. Smith said the average salary for a child care worker is $24,230 annually, and nearly half of child care workers are in a public assistance program.
“Almost half qualify for some kind of public assistance such as food stamps, WIC, some of those programs, and almost all of our workforce lacks health benefits,” said Smith.
Smith said some parents also face varying work hours, only receive their schedules two weeks in advance and many families can’t afford the cost of care.
“It’s a failing business model, in part because of the instability of the income going into these programs,” Smith said.
Smith said that moving forward, it’s necessary to consider affordability of child care, as well as access and infrastructure. She also addressed the quality of the work force and said pay issues must be dealt with.
Smith referenced the governor of Idaho’s approach, saying he set money aside in grants for cities to use if child care was needed. The grants allowed residents to build a space for child care and contract for operation. She also referenced a program in Atlanta, Georgia that buys old facilities and schools to renovate, as well as an old school in Missoula, Montana that is currently being renovated for child care operations.
Smith encouraged the task force to consider various funding options, including various federal, state and philanthropic funds.
“We can’t just think there’s one one solution to this, because I hope as you’ve seen, it’s a very complex problem,” Smith said.
The state legislature is expected to address child care issues for working parents in the upcoming session.
The task force will meet twice before the end of the year, when they will provide a list of policy recommendations to the Legislature before disbanding in December.

I've got 2 families that still haven't paid. It's due by closing today, and I sent invoices over a week ago. One mom seems very forgetful, and she doesn't come on Tuesdays. I expected a check yesterday, but nope. I haven't heard from her, either. I'm sure she'll have a check for me tomorrow, but I should add a late fee at 5:31 tonight. How do parents remember to pay all their other bills, but daycare gets paid last?? Ugh, I'll never understand.

You have to MAKE them care. Make a late fee and enforce it every single time. Make sure your late fee isn’t something that’s not worth it to you. I changed mine because I had several parents that didn’t mind paying it so I made it higher so they would. Now at exactly 6:01 they get a text that says they are late and that the fee has been added on and they won’t be allowed to drop off again until it’s paid.

What ways do you remember to pay your bills?

DCM text me at 10:30 last night and it woke me up and I couldn't fall back to sleepI have it in my handbook not to text after 9 pm. I have a child away at college, so I keep my phone by my bed in case they need me.

DCB2 had a cough a runny nose yesterday. Told DCP if no improvement, keep him home.
They brought him anyways. I wiped his nose at least 8x before lunch - no cough. No appetite at lunch, but had a dry cough. After nap, I do my second round of temperature checks. Guess who has a fever?
Pretty sure it’s RSV. I have a parent at home with a newborn and a DCK with asthma. When are parents going to learn?!
I am also pissed at myself for taking him.Last edited by GirlMomma; 11-03-2022, 01:30 PM.

Some parents won't learn until the consequences of this kind of behavior comes back to bite them in the bum. Even then, some never get it. I've learned to stand firm when it comes to contagious illnesses and will refuse them at the door. I do feel bad when I have to do that but with all of the potentially serious viruses going around right now, I've already warned my parents that their kids can't come to daycare if they have cold symptoms unless they're tested first.

e.j. You’re so right! The two families that give me the biggest grief about my illness policies are the ones that are affected by this positive case the most. The positive child (first PITA family) has a newborn sibling at home - 4 weeks old! The positive child also has an asthmatic cousin who attends my daycare - my second PITA family about illnesses. The asthmatic cousin is home today, despite not having symptoms. The parents didn’t want to risk anything. I hope they understand now where I am coming from.
My email last night said that minor symptoms to some children could be detrimental to another child’s health.Last edited by GirlMomma; 11-04-2022, 04:46 AM.

I had a daycare interview scheduled for 4:30 (my closing time) today with a family who is connected with a family currently enrolled.
So at 4:29, the current dcb3 is still at daycare, and the interview-mom comes to the door and tells me " I told current dcm I will pick up dcb3 (already enrolled, still at daycare today) and drop him off when I finish the daycare interview with ms. xxxx"
I said "no mam, we will need to reschedule" she said "for real?" I said "yes mam, for real". I looked at my calendar (real professional like) and she said what about tomorrow....I said NO........still looking at calendar.(real professional like
)......she said Monday.......NO...........she didn't say anything else and I keep looking at calendar(real professional like
) and then I say Wednesday at 4:30. She was like Yes, yes, and I think this part of the conversation made my point as she lost the deer-in-the-headlight-look and had more of an embarrassed, even scared look.
I'm finding it harder and harder to be professional during happenings like this....what part of anything I say/do/tell is so hard to understand????
For those who remember this song I'm gonna start singing at times like these to these people..... HERE'S YOUR SIGN!!!!!
