Is it too early to be over the day already with only half of my kids here this morning?
My first family comes in, DCB doesn’t have shoes today. DCM says to let him outside in his socks. Oh, okay. The child has a KNOWN sensory problem with anything on his feet. He wears braces & when the braces come off, the socks do too. But we’ll see how long the socks last.
My second family comes in, it’ll be 88 degrees today and humid... DCB is in pants. Not just any pants, thick khaki pants. I tell DCM we’re going outside then ask if he has shorts? DCM says no and asks if there are shorts in his cubbie... thankfully there is one pair. But when she forgets to bring more shorts, he’ll be stuck wearing sweats this summer because that’s all that’s left.
My third family comes in, DCG has iPad. DCD informs me that DCB had a fever Saturday and threw up this morning at 4 AM - he thinks because the child was eating sprite and Cheetos then coughing. I tell DCD if he spikes a fever today, he’ll be sent home.
I am dreading the next family’s arrival.Comment

What I do is pull the clothes from the cubby seasonally and bag them. Give them back to the parents and request brand new clothes for the next day. I do this because kids grow out of things quickly and to get the proper season. -
I just did that, too back in April because it hit 80 here a couple of times. I have some families that are great about it & others that have yet to send in extras. I try to be mindful about their financial situations but good grief! My girls always had a minimum of 3 outfits in their cubbies when they attended daycare.
I have one child I sent home because he had wet himself, woke DCD up (3rd shifter) to come get him. I advised dad that if he brought extra clothing I would’ve have woken him up... that was 3 weeks ago and he still doesn’t have any extra.

I would not have allowed the shoeless child nor the "sick" over the weekend kid to stay. Shoes are a requirement so mom could either go home (WITH child) and get shoes or keep child but no shoes = no stay.
Child that threw up at 4AM would be excluded per illness policy as 4AM is within the 24 hours of needing to be healthy PRIOR to attending.
Shorts kid.... request mom fill cubby with multiple sets of shorts etc by tomorrow @drop off or no attendance.
Parents get in line pretty quickly after you draw the line and stand by it. I know it can be hard sometimes but it will save you a ton of stress in the long run

Yikes! Pink eye can spread like wild fire! I hate that schools here no longer exclude for it because I still do as little kids are not the same as school age kids so parents always try to argue with me about it. If pink eye is going around, I am vigilant about excluding the child with ANY symptoms until they are either 100% better or have been on antibiotics for 48 hours. Many Dr's don't or won't prescribe antibiotics for it anymore so if a child's Dr won't or doesn't I require exclusion until 100% back to normal. Pink eye is horrible!
Yes, common sense tells us that certain things should be a given but DCP's are definitely outside that realm of common sense expectations most times..... There ARE some good parents but honest most of them will take a mile if given an inch. Hang in there and remember that it's YOUR business so ALWAYS do what YOU need to do to protect your family, your budget and your sanity. -
Pink eye, no I would not allow dck come with pink eye. But I would feel comfortable sending my child to school with it. She's old enough to know not to play with her eye or let anyone else touch it either.
Couple years ago my newborn ds sneezed in my eye before I could blink. I got pink eye. The next day at nap time I did a virtual appointment and got diagnosed. I never closed and no one got it. -
Well... an EOD update if you are all wondering.
Family 1- advised next time, child will be excluded without shoes.
Family 3 - sent home as soon as the thermometer read 99.9. I know it wasn’t over 100, but I KNEW he was dope and dropped. DCD took him to the pediatrician and just called to say he has an ear infection. I advised he could return on Wednesday.
Family 4 - older brother will be out tomorrow to get the antibiotics in his system for the pink eye. Little brother will be here because the doctor wouldn’t prescribe anything for him/see him until his eyes were red/oozing.
Is it too soon to ask, “is it Friday yet?” 😩 after today, I am more than ready for this long weekend!!!

DCM of my youngest (age 8 months) tells me she takes child to bathroom with her to pee.
Makes DCD cook etc because she's holding baby 24/7.
DCD told her to let her be/get used to mom leaving room now and then. DCM thinks it abusive to allow child to get that upset.
It explains alot of unwanted behaviors baby has had lately DESPITE mom knowing full well what not to do.
Grrr! These parents lately..... they know better but just can't do better. It's not only driving me insane but is driving me straight into not wanting to do this job.

I hope she realizes that her current patterns are a huge part of why young parents divorce. They fixate on the mama loves baby show and put nothing into the marriage. I have found these types of marriages usually end by the time the first child is four. One of those hindsight is 20/20 things, I suppose. Fingers crossed that the effects won't be at your house. -
Holding a child all the time is the real child abuse. It’s literally impossible for any provider to hold a child all the time. So child used to be held all the time will then scream all day.
I agree with CH! It’s sad that new moms think they don’t need to invest anything into their marriage. Our marriage comes first, THEN our girls. We have to be a team with a strong forefront.

What a week !
One of my kids fell while walking up the slide and bumped the bone above his eye socket. I’ve never hear a child scream so loud. Nothing was broken but he now has a nasty black eye.
I was making play dough and spilled blue food coloring all over my new shirt. I usually use kool aid for play dough but I was trying out a new recipe. I can’t seem to get all the blue out.
I was taking a spaghetti casserole out of the oven and the door came back up giving me a second degree burn on the lower arm. Ouch!
Fortunately the week wasn’t all bad as I received a nice not from a parent telling me how much they appreciate all I do.Comment

Our state has an Expulsion Prevention Policy. Expulsion = contract termination. We can only terminate for payment issues, NOT behavior. We must consult state experts for “behavior that does not respond to ordinary classroom strategies.” EXCUSE ME BUT WHEN DID I BECOME A *CLASSROOM*??.!! The state no longer allows us to be childcare providers for working parents unless we serve six or fewer children. More kids than this, and we have to follow “classroom” regulations. So says my inspector.Comment

Number six means we must tell the parents about therapies and allow it onsite. Or so says our licensor. Anything short of physical danger to others becomes our problem to face every day.

Our training refers alot to this Standing Together.Joint Statement.FINAL__9_0.pdf (naeyc.org). there is a policy statement to click on within the article. I look for this policy to be a part of any federal funding for child cares. Just my opinion!Comment

PB&J...I think all this is happening to put in place 'universal child care'......in the expulsion-trainings I have had this year, many things are being up in place.....ratios are listed as a cause at this produces more stress; there are many but to keep child care running, the federal government will produce the funding but they will also produce the rules that will be followed. This could get interesting as it unfolds....will take some time to do so but????Comment

Free child care is coming!!!!!! I care of 12 and only have one private-pay as the rest are on essential worker pay and have been on it since 4/15/20. Don't see it changing!!!!! I make families pay overages to meet what I charge. Got a meeting next week about all of this! ??Comment
