  • Me: *Sends email last week with closing reminders and posts reminders to SM accounts*

DCM today: Are you closing anytime around Christmas?

I could excuse her for not seeing the SM post… but the email?? Come on! 🙄

Editing this to say, I also announced Winter Break in SEPTEMBER!

    • Another one!

DCM: DCK is going with grandma today. See you tomorrow!

Me: Have a great day! Please send payment electronically or place it in the mailbox.

DCM: It can’t wait until tomorrow?

      🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Lord I hope today’s stupidity isn’t setting the tone for the week. I don’t have the patience 😅

Blackcat31 I am strongly considering 52 weeks/year. I just don’t know how to change over to that.

My families don’t use their vacation time. They forget to turn it in. So the only time they don’t pay is when I close for the week.

I used to have vacation time for the families, nobody used them. So I edited it out of my handbook for the next family that signed up. Vacation time was written into the actual contract for the current families so nothing changed for them. When they left so did the vacation time.

I did make some adjustments to the vacation time before I edited it out. One was how they could use it and when they could use it or something like that, like they had to use a full day or for a week.

Alwaysgreener currently they have to use a full week, not to be taken consecutively. But no one ever turns it in. I’ve had one family use it all year.

I have it edited out of my handbook now. Just wasn’t sure if that’s something you’d tell current families or not.

    • Just sent DCG home. She started crying and shivering and I checked her temp and it was 100. She was fine at drop off. Please let nobody else get sick! We just finally got everyone well. Friday is the last day daycare is open until the new year. I don't want myself or anyone in my family sick for our winter break. Thanksgiving break was ruined with illness. I am just so done 😔

Knock on wood - my DCK haven’t even had a sniffle in two weeks, thank goodness!

But I swear, if a child coughs or sniffles in the next 9 days, they’re going home. I am not dealing with it! 😂

        Praying it stops with her!!!

Thank you! I hope you don't have any illnesses come in to your daycare either.

    • I have the sneaking suspicion that a parent is lying to me about illness. DCK have missed two days in a row. Unplanned. It’s very out of character for this DCF because one of the kids is always here. I was told one DCK was complaining of an earache. I have a hunch it’s more than that and it’s just gotten so bad that DCP decided to see a doctor. Per usual.

I jinxed myself yesterday saying my DCK were healthy.

I have a parent annoyed with me because enforced my illness policy and called for pick up because the kid had a green runny nose.

      • 1. Just because you show up 4 minutes before daycare is open and knock on the door repeatedly doesn't mean I am going to open it.
        2. I have a very fussy baby today - congested and cranky, but nothing I would typically send home for. The frustrating part? Dad isn't working today.
        3. Another dcd asked me when I'm closed for Christmas break. Hmm...maybe you should check the handbook, or the newsletter I sent out a couple weeks ago, or maybe the parent board right behind you?!

Ugh, I am so ready for Christmas break! I am running very low on patience

(((hugs))) this time of year is so tough.....
A fussy, cranky congested baby IS plenty of reason to send home. There is NO reason you should have to manage that in GROUP care and it's honestly really rude that parents expect you to. I sent home 2 kids with no illness symptoms last week other than cranky behaviors because its not MY job to parent a child that isn't mine and fussy, cranky and congested are all parent responsibilities

Blackcat31 thank you for the reassurance. Dealt with this earlier.

      • I am the one that gets the kids in from outside where clients sign in/out; and my mom always asks when I roll the kids in, did this parent say or do this or that; but now I do very little small talk because very little is true and very little is followed through with from the client's standpoint.....so now I just, as most of y'all do, I do not unlock door until arrival time in the morning and all are picked at before or by correct time.....that is the only expectation I allow myself to have anymore or I would be MAD/FRUSTRATED ALL-THE-TIME. Having a PJS and Pancakes Wednesday and our Christmas event is OVER; I do MY BEST EVERY DAY and refuse to beat-myself-up if children are NOT learning.....I have newer/better set-up and more child friendly than it's been in years due to the QRIS change and still 'no real playing/learning' happening.......no matter how many hours they are in my care, I can't overtake/change the home environment.....I'm giving my ALL but that's all I can do hoping it comes out somewhere down the line.....Buying time until Dec. 23, then it's all about me and my family.....allowing myself two days for daycare during this time...THAT IS IT! Not sure if hard knocks/age/experience is working for me but something had to give and I had to become a realist and quit trying to be a miracle worker all the time. Not real sure where I started with this rambling nor why but that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

        • Why can’t parents keep their sick child home instead of waiting for the provider to send them home?

            • Oh how I wish this child did not self-soothe by vigorously digging their fingernail as high up their nasal passage as possible

Ick!! I have a 20 mo old who has just started doing that and just gives me a blank look when I tell him to take his finger out of his nose. When I remove his finger for him, he just sticks it right back in. I guess it's better than the kid who sticks her fingers as far back in her throat as possible and gags herself until she vomits but not by much! lol

            • We've had ton of snow these last few days and hubby has been busy with snow removal. He has a separate truck for plowing as he has yet to purchase a plow for his new truck.... Last Thursday he got the plow truck stuck in our driveway and had to use his new truck to pull out the plow truck. Our driveway is almost a mile long and very "rural"....
Anyways, while using the new truck to pull out the plow truck, the chain snapped and flew back into the back of the new truck. Made a couple dents in the tailgate and broke the tail light. Called the shop and found out a new tail light will cost about $700!!!! He has "lane departure" and "cross traffic alert" systems and I guess that is what makes the tail lights so expensive to replace. I love technology when it makes our lives easier but when it costs a fortune to fix/repair...I hate it!

Annalee we bought a jeep that ended up having a few recalls. Now after I purchase a vehicle, I will check the website for recalls. There is a way to register the vehicle to you on the website so you can get a notice when recalls are available for repair.

That's bad news any time but it seems especially bad right before Christmas. New technology has its pros and cons, for sure.

            • This week the kids are on school break and I have two pt SA kids that I planned for them to come. I was prepping a older kid craft and bought extra food this weekend.

I get a text from DCM this morning the she and the kids have COVID. Not their fault but that was a waste of time and money.

That stinks. The good news is, they realized they had Covid before they brought it in to you and your family. ;-)

            • I plan to follow the school schedule next year, but man I wish I would've done it this year.

I've got everyone gone the rest of this week except for one family - and dcp doesn't even work everyday, but idk when he's off/on.

Had I of known this a couple months ago, I would've closed the rest of the week. On the bright side, maybe I can get most of my housework done before break

              • (I have a no drop-off rule during school days for the bus stop)

DCM asked at pick up yesterday when the kids get out for winter break
I told her they started Monday and will go back in January.

Their drop-off time is 730 but they come 740-745 with a no drop-off from 745-815. I knew if I told her school was out this would happen.
DCD did not arrive until 806. So much for needing a 730 drop-off time.

                    ... below.

                • We’ve been watching Madagascar for the last hour.

DCB5: *tearing up and whining* Ms. GM, I don’t want to watch this movie.

This kid does this EVERY time we have a movie day! The last time when did this, I called his parents for pick-up because it turned into a full on meltdown. When DCM arrived, she wanted to talk about his “big feelings” in my foyer.
