  • I guess it really depends on what's going on. I've been there, though, so I can understand how you might feel both emotions at the same time. Hopefully you can get it resolved quickly.

On a lighter note... just when I think I've seen and heard it all, someone on this forum will share a situation that catches me totally by surprise! It never seems to fail. lol

    • Had a previous DCD show up at my door this morning during breakfast, he nearly gave me a heart attack. All my DCK’s were in attendance so I was not expecting anyone. I hear the doorbell ring, I ignore it thinking it was either a package delivery or the mailman and I’d get to it after the kids finished eating. Shortly after the doorbell rings I hear loud banging and now my guard goes up wondering who could that be. I go to the front door look through the glass but I don’t see anyone, then I hear the banging at my side door. I reluctantly go to open the door to see who it is and see DCD, he asks if I can take DCG right then and there. I tell him I don’t just take kids like that, or at least try to tell him before he interrupts. I then tell him I’m full and DCD says not even for one day, I say no

Mind you this was a family I had back in September and DCG was only in care for one week. It was roughest week I’ve ever had! DCG had a lot of behavioral issues; she screamed non-stop, the few minutes when she wasn’t screaming she couldn’t stay still and would climb on anything she could find and throw whatever was in her reach, on top of her not being able to be redirected or distracted because that would just cause her to scream more. Come to find out she had been kicked out of quite a few centers and in-home daycares, not surprisingly. Even if I had space it would have been a hard no.

Funny enough I didn’t terminate care, I was going to give her another week to see if she just needed some time to adjust. But DCG’s parents pulled her at the end of the week because they didn’t want to pay my rate. I was happy to see them go, lol

Yikes! Parents can be so odd sometimes. Glad you stood your ground and said no. Shame on him for just dropping in like that. More than likely the child was termed from somewhere or parent simply couldn't deal with them and needed care ASAP.

Definitely a first never had a prior client or prospective client just show up at my door requesting care on the spot, but there’s a first time for everything. Lol

    • Let's see...one kid has on a Halloween princess costume and another one wore suspenders. One forgot to bring shoes and the other forgot snow gear.

Really?! I can't with parents sometimes

    • DCB leaves for Pre-K in the afternoons. There is a school delay today so Pre-K is pushed back an hour, which I am fine with since he still gets picked up before nap time starts. Today DCM says she'll still pick him up at normal time so he isn't waiting for an hour for his ride. Does she really think I still get him ready at normal time and make him wait by the door for an hour? I didn't comment since I prefer the consistent schedule, but

      • Everybody gets their things on for recess, we get to the playground and dcg 3, who is potty training, says I need to go potty. So everybody's got to go back in the house, for her district down, go potty, and then put everything back on. Is it worth going back out?

I was just telling a parent that this kind of thing never fails! It takes me 20-45 minutes to get my kids ready to go out because as I'm getting one kid dressed, the others are getting themselves undressed. Just as I finally get everyone ready to go out, someone always announces some version of "I peed", "I pooped" or "I have to go potty!" And it doesn't seem to matter if I've just changed them or had the potty trainers use the bathroom.

      • I get very few calls lately and the all seem to have some kind of red flag. Today I got a call and she asked if she could text me some questions. I yes that would be great, when her text comes in, she's someone that called me in 2021 and when I tried to respond to her she ghosted me.

She texted me asking how she could start, I said, let's meet, then do paperwork and deposit (first and last week). She lost it, well not really. She tried to start without the deposit. I told her that we could do payment plans with half of it but that the other half paid for care. The next thing I know, she is asking on FB for a babysitter, and one woman responded -- I have a feeling the woman that responded is going to not get paid.

      • dcg3 comes in with 2 backpacks; I tell mom those will not fit in her cubby; mom tries to take one back but dcg3 goes balistic; dcm then crams one into the other and gives me MEAN look; I literally give her back a bottle/paci every morning.....dcm, you are NOT winning this battle!

The parents are getting harder to deal with than the kids lately. I have one dcm who has been reminded several times that I don't allow food/toys from home. Every morning, her kid shows up with either a sippy of milk or juice, part of his uneaten breakfast or a toy in each hand.

      • My chromebook keeps telling me there is a virus in my google drive but it lists a word document folder??? My computer family says everyone is getting these notifications and it's fake but to change my passwords to my emails to be safe. Y'all seeing anything like this on your laptops/chromebooks?

I was always under the impression that we don't HAVE to give them anything for taxes. It's their responsibility to keep track of what they pay. They can ask for a W-10, but we aren't required to give them a tax form without asking. I always give a form, always have and always will. But I had these 2 dcms who acted like I was required to give them something and would make a comment about when the due date was to get them done, and it irked me every time! So petty, I know. The past few years, I always do them within the first couple weeks of the year so I don't get asked lol

Sparkles that would irk me, too. I’d wait as long as possible. Maybe even mail it 😂

Yep, that’s what I was told and according to Tom Copeland, we don’t have to give them one at all if they left/termed owing you money. Like you, I always give the parents their yearly statement so I don’t have to deal with an audit. If they age out/are termed, they get them on their last day of childcare. Otherwise, I try to send them out the last week in December.

        • Case in point with THESE kids; dcb5 looks at mamaw and says "mamaw, you have to get me a hotdog before you take me home to mom because she is cooking pasta and you know she will make me eat it and I don't like it". He goes to kindy in August, thank goodness! What????!!!!!

          • I have a 2 yr old (26 months) that had a terrible cold last week. Green caterpillars running down her face for days on end. Total ICK! This week, her nostrils have begun bleeding and are dry and cakey. More ICK. I told mom I was concerned about a sinus infection as the symptoms have gotten so much worse over the last 2 weeks. No fever but just over all ICK to have to manage and control when child is so young and is prone to being a major nose picker. She always has her fingers stuffed up her nose... I am so tired of having to sanitize and disinfect the areas she has contaminated and having to constantly tell her to stop putting her fingers in her nose and mouth. Ewww! Mom scheduled a doctors visit. Told me this morning that the doctor told her that kids her age can't get sinus infections.

My dck 12 mod had a doctor appointment Monday and has had thick caterpillar buggers for 3 weeks: according to dcm, the doctor said the cold should be over by now and not to worry because the buggers are not germs and can’t spread Illnesses… I was like seriously???? 🤦🏻‍♀️

              I just give up. 🤦🏼‍♀️
I exclude for symptoms that don’t mesh well with my daily routine but the reasons/excuses parents come up with for the root of these symptoms just boggles my mind. 🤷‍♀️

            • Yesterday, we had a change in plans and My dh could not take dd to her appt. Since the change in plans was so very last minute, I did not have enough time to let the parents know that dh would be subbing.

I was going to be late, which is not the family's fault but to make sure I got out of the driveway asap, I got dcg all ready to go and took her outside with her bag and my tablet (to check her out on) and waited outside. At the point that I went out, it was 3 minutes to pick up time/close.

My dd got everything in the van and started the van.

When they pulled in together, I walked dcg over to the car and even though I said that I had to leave, dcd took his time messing with dcg car seat before taking her from me.

When I got home and looked at the check-out time one more second and they would have been late again.

Can this start earlier than 3?? I have a DCG2 that started with me six weeks ago and does this same thing!

It doesn’t matter what the activity is or what we’re transitioning over to. She wants to do the opposite of what we’re doing. She has to be redirected so many times because she keeps trying her luck. Once redirected, she’ll do this fake whine/cry thing and stop.

I am sure the parents give into her every time she does it, but I would think she’d realize after six weeks of not getting her way it doesn’t work here and she’d break this habit.

              • I had 2 families that showed up before opening. One mom repeatedly knocked for 3 minutes! I open at 7:30...not a minute before or a minute after. I have no clue what is so hard to understand about that. They wouldn't do this to the grocery store, so I don't know why they think it's okay to do it to me. They must not think I'm a legit business, I guess.
