  • Dck poops on the way to daycare. Mom gives me a diaper and tells me he needs changed.

I'll do the same thing to her when he poops right before pick-up

I don't mind if I have to change every once in awhile at arrival but if they hand me a diaper I would be irritated and hand it back.

If I don’t notice it before DCP arrives (my smell has been messed up since I had COVID) then I do hand them the diaper and wipes to change them. 😂

It’s the handing of the diaper and saying he needs to be changed that rubs me wrong. Like you’re “the help”.

A mom came in apologizing awhile back, saying her child had pooped on the way. Honestly, I’d rather just have the parent go on, and I change the child, but it’s all in the delivery, IMO.

  • Today isn’t a holiday I celebrate with the DCK like I do Valentine’s Day. Sure, I’m wearing green and I may or may not make green Rice Krispie Treats later. But that’s the extent of it for me.

DCM brought DCK in today. Her face is painted with glittery four leaf clovers. Why? 🙄

That doesn't seem all that unusual to me. Maybe it's because my mother's side of the family is Irish, I attended church and school in an Irish Catholic parish and live in an area with a relatively high Irish population where towns hold big parades to celebrate the day ...? lol

We did St. Patrick's Day crafts all week, read St Patrick's Day themed books, played Irish music (thank goodness the kids don't really listen to or understand the lyrics!), watched videos of Irish dancers and tried to copy them, ate green foods during our meals and snacks and we all wore green yesterday since I'm closed today. I didn't even request that the kids come in green; they all just did since it was the last day we'd be together before the "holiday". We don't really make a huge deal of any holiday, but we do a little here and there to recognize them. I wouldn't have even blinked an eye if one of the kids showed up with painted shamrocks on their face! It's all part of the fun here on St. Patrick's Day. lol

e.j. It sounds like you had a lot of fun yesterday!

I have heard of parades to celebrate today, but it’s only happening at our state’s capital. Around here, people use it as a drinking holiday, which is why I’ve never gone all out for it. Celebrating the true history of it seems like fun!!!

We talked about St Patrick himself and did a couple crafts plus watched the veggie tales story of St Patrick. (10 min video on YouTube)

  • Is anyone else's kids wild today? Idk what's going on with my group today!

So much energy, not following rules, yelling inside, running inside.

We're having an early lunch so they can lay down TGIF.

Any chance there's a storm heading your way? My mother was a teacher's aid when I was a kid and she swore she could tell a storm was coming based on the kids' behavior. I've noticed the same thing with my daycare kids. Or maybe they just have a case of the "Fridays"? ;-)

I had a past parent that did that all the time!!! His mom would pop in once he started kdg just to visit because dcb “missed Ms, C sooooo much”. It stopped when I moved. I’m sure she was shocked when she knocked and it was a new family living there. 😅

        Sounds familiar

DCBs (twins) Arrive and within 10 minutes, one of them is sick. DCM left quickly that morning.

Me: DCB just threw up and DCM is not answering
DCD: I am at a site on the other side of the state and DCM is in a meeting with her phone off. I can call my parents.
ME: Yes that would be great

DCD: They are on their way, they should be there in an hour or so.

        1-hour passes

Me: Your parents haven't arrived yet.
DCB: They left 30 mins ago and it is a little over an hour's drive

        45 min later they arrive

    • Started back to work 3/6 and found out while i was off that the teacher that's in the 4 year old room now has a new assignment, she is over all the food program paperwork and cooks (she's the one that i wrote about in discruntled employee a while back). So yesterday i was fixing snack and she decided to complain about the way i was doing it and said that if something was wrong with the numbers that she would get chewed out and that i would get chewed out as well so pretty much she was trying to make herself look good again! She even threatened to complain that i was on my phone to much and that i was being loud but she won't tell how she got fired from her other job and then lied to all of us!

Blackcat31 I quit responding to all messages a few months back. If it doesn’t seem to be an emergency, I wait to respond until 7:31 AM the next business day.

I think it’s rude to reach out to someone outside of their business hours - but especially at 9:27 on a week night or 7:23 on a Saturday morning. You don’t call Target at 11 PM lol

I do, too! I was closed for a week a couple summers ago and this dcm wouldn't stop messaging me. Messaged me while we were at the airport that her husband has strep. Umm...okay? We had a child with strep the week before in care. I told her I hope he feels better and left it at that. She then continued to message me once we got to our destination about how her child now doesn't feel good, blah blah blah. Like what do you want me to do about it? I eventually stopped responding and she went and complained to another dcm that I was ignoring her.

I'll respond if it's something quick, but if it can wait, I'll wait until business hours to respond. They wouldn't do this to a center, home providers always seem to get treated differently.

Sparkles you were ignoring her… on your vacation? 😂 I remember when I worked for corporate, I would set out of office replies so clients didn’t bother me. What the heck 😂

      • Something that always makes me go "hmm."

It's Spring Break here. Dcb has two older siblings. The older siblings are with grandma and grandpa today, but dcb came here. I really don't mind! He's super sweet and a great kid. Mom told me this would be his only day here this week due to being with grandparents and my closures.

Grandpa picks up and I told dcb bye and that I'd see him next week. Grandpa seemed confused and said "wow, next week?" I said "yup!" Maybe dcm assumed that they'd keep him tomorrow but grandpa didn't really plan on it?? Idk

But seriously, this poor kid was wondering this morning why his siblings got to go with grandma and grandpa and he had to come to daycare. I just always thought it was strange when grandparents take one kid or kids, but not the other. He's super easy and his grandparents are more than capable.

I had one set of grandparents that drove from out of state to see a former dcb, but brought him to me all day every day. And they'd draw straws on who had to come pick him up. In their defense, he was a terror

I have a family I’ve known for years. DCM’s mother kept their oldest daughter until she went to K. Then DCB came along. Once he turned a year old, all of a sudden she couldn’t watch him anymore. He was “too much” for her. It’s sad, but I am happy to have him. He’s an easy kid!

I wouldn’t be surprised if your DCB shows up tomorrow.

          Where's the positive!!!!! Still looking......

      • I swear some parents seem to purposely be a thorn in your side…

A bit of backstory…I changed my closure policies end of last year so when weather causes school to be delayed, I am delayed as well. If school is closed I am as well. When I send out contract or policy changes, I require parents to respond confirming receipt of info.

We had a bad snowstorm come through yesterday-tomorrow morning. Everyone was aware of it.
School announced closure last night at 7:30/8:00. I texted all parents that I’m closed today. All responded with an “ok, see you Thursday” or something similar. Specifically, DCMom of C said.. “No problem! See you Thursday!”

DcDad of C texted me this morning at 5am and said “I thought you were just delayed in opening when school closes so I was surprised by your text last night. Can you clarify your policy so I know moving forward that we are on same page?”

I’m super annoyed he texted at 5am. Why not text last night when I did if he was surprised then?
DCM and DCD only text me in a group text so DCD clearly knows DCM replied positively.
I guess I’m just not understanding why he’s questioning me at all

I replied to his early morning text that he needs to go back and re-read the info I sent out about it and I even copied/pasted the sentence stating the policy.

Of course, I’ve received no reply from him all day
No idea why he’s being so ignorant but Im gonna have to call him out on it in the morning I guess.

Yes, he definitely knows! Kind of like when someone says, “I’m confused.” And we know they are not, in fact, confused. They are being passive-aggressive.

Does anyone else get a little offended when a parent says this to you? Like, you could've just said he wanted to stay home, or he wanted to spend time with you

Of course, 2 seconds after mom left he was fine.
