  • What's New and Fun in your Program?

What new toy, activity, craft, game or lesson plan are you really enjoying with your group this week? What ages? Any tips or ideas to make it go more smoothly, the first time?

Green toys went on sale and stocked up. I got a garbage truck, recycling truck, flatbed with car, fire truck, plane, shape sorter, dune buggy, car hauler, spaceship, showboat, cargo boat, and mini cars. I already had a boat, stacking toy, two dump trucks, and train.

Then my daughter was outside I was trying to reach something, and she stepped on the 30 year old Little tikes picnic table and her foot went through. So while debating on replacing it with new or used, I found it the picnic table that I wanted the on sale and saved like $50. It's the type that folds up and has seating all way around.

My kids like to have shopping cart races, but with three boys and two shopping carts it wasn't as fun. Went to post an item for sale on marketplace and the top recommendation for me was a yellow Little tikes shopping cart for $7, which is the exact cart that I was looking for. Kids can't even tell which ones are old and which one is new.

I also got a few things from simplay3, with my child care provider discount and free shipping. I got a sibling step stool for the bathroom, a step stool for the pantry and a gardening stool. Then I decided to get there two sided train and race track for my son. Oh he loves this thing, I found some old small Tonka trucks and he plays with this track and the Tonka trucks daily. I also have their teeter totter bridge and their wobbly that both held up great throughout the winter.

I totally recommend any company like green toys and simplay3 that are made in America with great quality. Green toys are recycled plastic jugs and Simplay3 is veteran owned add gives childcare providers a discount.

Awesome! I will check them out. I am unfamiliar with green toys. Sounds like fun.

Personally, I am simply HAPPY to be functioning a little more normal....full-capacity (I have been at full capacity but not all were attending every day) now attending every day for the month of April with a consistent routine.......working on getting some grant materials from 'last' year put together and placed on the playground and still need to unload the pea gravel first.........ordered from lakeshore the nature look but 'little tykes 'like' made' water trough, round table w/stump seating, sand/water table, mud kitchen and another little tykes nature look picnic wood-look table with umbrella from Amazon....have put the four new coupe cards out already....my oldest son refloored my home-made playhouse my dad built near 30 years ago. My grant this year I ordered mainly for the inside. Kind of like a new beginning during a new time!

It seems it's been busy, busy, busy but I kinda like that mode rather than the 'not knowing which way to turn' mode it has been in my state over the past year.

For self-care, other than the daycare zooms, mom and I have began back with our monthly in person meetings with all my aunts and lady cousins.......and also our monthly womens get-togethers to chat with the ladies. Going a year without all this has took it's toll, especially on my mom.....she lives for things like that.

Oh well, not sure if this is close enough to activities/curriculum, but it's my 'life' right now.

It sounds like it is winding up to be a fantastic summer at your house. Nice. I can't remember the last time I was social outside of my nuclear family on purpose. Maybe I need to take a cue from you.

My oldest one just turned 2yr so we're just playing around with the basics for now, and no matter how many toys they have, my arms and lap is what they always fight for
I have so much stuff accumulated over the years, with the uncertainty we're living in, I don't want to invest more into this business

That I can relate to. At that age they love the box an wrappings the best, anyway.

I remember a time when a 2yr old didn't need thousands of reminders to learn a simple direction..that's when I had the most fun with my DCKs

I bought a pack of little rainbow bubble poppers of Amazon for really cheap. They kids LOVE these things. They will spend 1/2 hour just pushing the little silicone "bubble wrap" back and forth. https://smile.amazon.com/Sensory-Rel...8P4SH5PZ&psc=1
We bought a new rope swing for the tree this year too. Something about tree swings just feels like summer!

Mine arrived just in the nick of time, right before the big storms hit. The kids have been playing with them and seem not as concerned with the thunder and lightening.

That sounds fun. Mine sits on the ground and seems to encourage dumping. It requires non-stop policing. It is probably my least favorite thing on the playground. Ugh.

My best clients everDaycare improvements made a 1K donation, so I reviewed my curriculum, saw that gross motor and music & movement were the weakest areas, and purchased all this stuff (plus a little more). The small activities are our "rainy day" front patio kit. The rest is outdoor environment and music. I already had the glockenspiel and resonator bells, but the new steel drum has the same one-octave arrangement, so we'll be using them together to explore folk songs. I have stained the garden bridge and added some native shrubs since I took the photo. The pavers are an existing space in the yard, now with a 40' long labyrinth made of new red pavers.

Is there any chance you have the link to that bridge? My DH wants one for our little creek.

Most of mine are 4 and 5 year olds. I’ve been looking up preschool trivia questions to ask them, and it’s so much fun! I love hearing their answers, and they love doing it. They ask daily for question time. 😄

I’m with CH. all they do is dump, or toss in rocks and weeds from the ground. I don’t know if I should embrace this or stop buying sand…

Mine arrived damaged so now I have to wait for a replacement. However my kids did like them, I could not get the boys to put them down to go outside.

We’re doing Mother’s Day gifts. Last week we had the kids answer questions about their moms (favorite food, favorite color, what makes her happy etc). This week we are going to make handprints of the children and take a picture of them to make a little keepsake book.

Got these bubble pop things that the kids all love. https://www.amazon.ca/Reliever-Silic...ble+pop&sr=8-4

also got a new kids table it's a touch higher then I would have wanted (22inch) but it works. On the plus side it folds away or you can raise it up to full height table.
Ordered new kids chairs but the first ones I got said 10inch but are realy a bit lower and dont work with the new height. So now I'm waiting for my new set to come now from Amazon but it's shipping from California to Canada so it's going to take a bit.

Last week, a huge tub of dinosaurs were donated to my daycare & its been ALL the rage!

This week, we’ve been working on Mother’s Day crafts! I bought little canvas’ from the Dollar Tree & painted their hands. I plan to glue a little poem on the back.

We just got our porch swing
We're not ready to put it up, first we need to fix the deck, but we ordered it now anyway cause we thought the price might sky rocket along with the rest of the lumber
The kids are gonna love to sit in the swing and wait for pickup

My front porch is too narrow too, so we'll put it in the back, the deck is spacious and partly under a pergola so it will work out great

Just a warning, you may want to add latches to the lid of the sandbox with the benches. I had that sandbox, DH assembled it and put it outside, the next day the wind came through and tore the one bench/lid up and off the box. My dh had to repair the box, reattach the lid, and then added latches to the lids so it would not happen again. As long as the box was latched shut we had no trouble.
