I just had a parent bounce a pretty big check.it was written on July 8,but my bank just returned it today. I do not understand why it took so long for them to return it.

I would request a prepayment to cover the amount of the check and bounce fees, in cash.
My sister failed to pay the trash company and order to keep her service they required payment year in advance. So it would not be wrong for you to require advanced payment or a deposit at this point.
(My sister is mad but she found it that her trash service was the cheapest around and found a way to pay advance)

My policy in my handbook about bounced checks: “A $35 fee will be charged if your check is returned. The parent must pay the amount of the check plus the $35 fee immediately upon notification of a returned check. The child will not be permitted to stay in care until all fees are paid in full in cash or credit/debit card. The parent will be responsible to pay for any time the child misses while the parent is “catching-up” on tuition. The parent will be required to pay by cash or credit/debit card after the first returned check.”

Blackcat31 do you think that if her check bounced on the 8th that I should be concerned about the check she wrote me the week after on the 15th bouncing as well and would you terminate if it did

Yes, I would be worried about second check clearing. I’d require the DCP to find out if second heck will clear and I would keep family if the only issue is the bounced check but moving forward I would not accept anything other than cash from them. I’d also suspend services until ALL fees are paid in full. I’d also charge a daily late fee until they’re caught up. You should never have to provide services without advance payment.
