I’ve been super picky about filling my last two spots. Interviewed a perfect family months ago, my hours wouldn’t work so they changed their work hours. Score right? Today I get the email ‘since we get summers off can I unenroll
for the summer to not pay’ …. Sigh

I require either a non refundable/ doesnt go to future care -fee to hold the spot for the summer. Or they have the option to enroll part time minimum 2 days a week.

Lol I guess I am not the only one having trouble. I posted on FB that I had an opening for 12 months to 5 years, M & W. I got a few inquiries for 10 months wanting other days. I told them that if they were not firm on days and could do M & W instead we could tour. One agreed, we had a virtual meeting and then a tour. They started filling out the paperwork, I sent them the contract and they ask if I could their original days instead, I responded no only M & W, then they ghost me.

"Sure, but you won't be able to re-enroll in the fall. That is simply too much of business risk, as I am sure you understand. I have a few more interviews to conduct and will let you know if the slot is still available. Long-term clients must take priority. I'll be in touch, soon. Have a great day!"

Another option is to charge a higher weekly rate for teachers. Take your yearly and divide it by 36 weeks and charge her that fee. Set aside the extra for summer. That way you get paid and get a lighter summer.

That is a great idea. I have yet to have one teacher willing to do that, though. Most try to convince me they don't get paid all summer, have to buy their own supplies and should not be penalized for being a tEaChEr.... Um, hello. Say that again really slow.... what do you think I do for a living???

Cat Herder It does work, I know a provider that lives near the school and advertises that she caters to teacher schedules.

I tell parents that I understand wanting to save money on the spot during the summer but that I still need the income for that spot. They can unenroll for the summer but unless they pay me to hold it for them, they're taking the risk that it won't be available when they need it again in the fall.

Oh yes that's where my Family leave policy comes in handy. They have three choices, one to stay the same, one to pay the holding fee and one to leave then take their chances with an available spot when they want to come back.
