  • Does Anyone Nnow What This Might Be?

Hello everyone. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day today. My one year old daycare child presented with this yesterday and I was just wondering if anyone would know what this is? Thanks in advance for all your help

Check for those spots/blisters on her hands, feet and inside her mouth.

I require all rashes to be looked at by a doctor.

      I'd call it "excludable"

ANY unexplained or undiagnosed rash means exclusion until a medical professional can diagnose it.

I had a dc baby come in with a drool rash (per his father) that looked just like the one in the picture. My gut said, "Send him home." I ignored my gut and accepted him into care anyway thinking it really did look like a drool rash. Within an hour, I noticed the rash was spreading so I called for pick up. Too late! Within a day or two, all the kids had HFM. Hopefully your luck is better than mine! lol

I would let your DCF know there is a confirmed case of HFM. Disinfect all surfaces, including playground equipment if possible. Monitor the other DCK for a fever/rash for the next two weeks.

              HFM spreads rapidly.

Yes it does! Usually through the whole group but the problem is some doctors call it strep, hfm, a simple rash, and families use these diagnosis to stay in daycare. That's why I have in my policy that "Ms. XXXX makes decision on who may attend". I had a bad round of rotovirus years ago and the pediatric clinic kept sending a kid with a note back to me...then the kid ended up in the hospital with it....learned my lesson then, too!

A rash could be anything from an allergic reaction to a viral infection so I always exclude until it’s looked at by a doctor.

A family has withdrawn their child from my program over this policy but I’ve never had someone come back and say their rash is just an allergic reaction.

If the baby has HFM, they must have hid a fever from you. You get the fever first and then the rash comes later.

You do not want this virus so you be very careful. And be careful for a few weeks as it rolls through your entire daycare. I would go ahead and take away some toys now and leave your easiest ones to bleach every day out and do this for a few weeks. Wouldn’t do any crafting activities. Unless you have to per licensing.
