New Mom's Are Draining

I've got a new Mom that's very nice, but draining. She thinks her child should have special treatment.

"He needs his pacifier during nap, and special snuggles with a back rub until he falls asleep."
Nope. I actually took it away this week and he's fine. I also just lay him down awake.

"I think the doctor is going to recommend toddler formula at his 1yo appointment because he's so hungry he drinks his bottle so fast."
Nope. He's hungry because he needs more real food, and wtf is toddler formula.

The doctor in a nice way told her to chill out and bottles are gone. So she's thinking about bringing in coconut milk for me to serve him.

"Here is a big bag of snacks for you to put in your pantry, because I don't want him to eat the State recommended food."
Nope. I don't allow outside food here unless you bring it for everyone, or unless your child has diet restrictions.

"Will you document every ounce eaten, poop changed, and nap on this paper every day?"
Sure I'll fill this out. Oh thanks for not remembering to pay me, because taking away bottles threw your whole week off. I can fill out the form, but you can't fill out a check?!?

I get it. She's trying to do right by her child, but he's not the only kid here. My house is already full of daycare stuff I don't want to store special items for each individual unless it's diapers, etc.

I am laughing, rolling my eyes and 100% empathizing with you while I read this. I have a similar mom (and dad). I get it. I do, it's their first child but from a childcare perspective, it's down right silly some of the expectations new parents have.

Here is how I would handle it:

"He needs his pacifier during nap, and special snuggles with a back rub until he falls asleep."

Got it.

"I think the doctor is going to recommend toddler formula at his 1yo appointment because he's so hungry he drinks his bottle so fast."

Here is the form required for special diets. Have your doctor fill it out and return it to me NO LATER than xx day.

"Here is a big bag of snacks for you to put in your pantry, because I don't want him to eat the State recommended food."

Thank you but per the policies you agreed to upon enrollment, I can not accept outside foods.

Forgetting to pay you?! Um, yeah no. I hope you charged her a late fee for being disrespectful... I mean forgetful.

Hang in there... most times they get alot better about understanding what you do and what their expectations should be.
If not, they make good material to post in the venting thread.

Wait so you guys aren't required to fill out a daily form or sheet for your state? Yeah my state is seriously about to lose a provider because they want way too much for parents who care not enough for almost no money at all

I use an app (like Brightwheel) for this as a legally, unlicensed provider. I feel like the daily reports set me apart from the other providers in my area.

It was most likely created for tube feed children and someone decided it market it to the general public for greed, I mean profit.

This is where my new paperwork policy would come in handy. I don't keep track of baby things like food and diaper changes after a year unless there's some physical reason why I need to. I may comment to the parents when a regular pooper is not pooping or if the child is not eating. But if I don't say anything then everything is normal.

A lot of new parents don’t understand group care and what that all means. It is frustrating.

I buy a notebook and keep track of everything for the first year via writing it myself. I hate using the apps for tracking that stuff. I only use the app for pictures and lessons we went over. Anyway and I don’t have to do the notebook, I just do it for myself. I’ve had some parents take it home every day and use it too and bring it back and others who said nah it’s okay, I don’t need to use it or see it. It helps me see the babies natural schedule and keep everything smooth. After that I am not keeping track.

you know what’s even funnier? My dd has a feeding tube and our insurance used to send us regular formula! None of that fancy toddler stuff 🤣. Then they switched to pedíasure. The same one we get at the store except we get the one that is higher calorie (rarely available over the counter)

Yeah it is to make sure you are really caring for the child.

My first dcm wanted sheets filled out, once I started collecting them out of my yard, I stopped completing them and she never said a thing.

I had a teacher mom want one filled out, I had said that I had a small one that I used. (Quarter sheet of paper) she wanted a bigger one so she searched the web and printed it out (full sheet of paper) and brought it to me on their first day. Lol it was the same one, I had just printed smaller to save paper.

Certain things like “paci for nap, rubbing back” i just say okay but dont actually do.
