  • Bedsores??

Dcg1 was gone last week, preplanned but I don't know why.

Dcm comes in today and tries to give Vaseline to put on her bottom. I explain that I can't without medication form completed.

Dcm say that it is raw from chafing of the diaper, so I expect dryness on the outside area where the diaper would rub.

Due to privacy I won't even take a picture with my phone but there is open and closed wounds on her girl parts and not on the outside but closer to the center.

I am starting to think that we are not dealing with chafing. Wait I know we are not dealing with chafing or diaper rash. But before I overreact, what could it be?

I mean, this is so bad she either had an allergic reaction or was left in a diaper for hours. There is no way she was properly taken care of if this is a diaper rash.

I would call for pickup and require a diagnosis to return.

Holy crap. Open sores?? No, something is not right. And they didn’t tell you at all why she wasn’t there? So you don’t know if it was illness or vacation?

I agree they need to pick up and you need a doctors note.

Doing a quick google search it’s possible this is a bacterial rash. Probably a rash that has turned bacterial. She needs a prescription cream so doctor regardless. And I’m side eyeing this mother not telling you anything or how bad that rash is.

I agree this is a good possibility. I've had to send infants/toddlers home for this and they had to get a prescription cream to treat the open sores. Usually happens over the weekend when they get left in a dirty diaper for too long.

I've had infants that have had this and the parents were required to keep them home until the sores scabbed over. The infant also needed miracle cream which is a compound of zinc oxide and Nystatin. I would definitely call for pickup and require them to see their doctor.

MissCait dcm told ten days in advance that Dcg would not be here last week. She did not say why though and I didn't ask or ask anything. They could have gone on vacation and left her with grandparent, they could have gone on vacation and taking her with them, they could have had to work out of town, there could be many reasons.

Cuz like I said there is no way that this rash is a normal change every 2 hours or when soiled kind of rash. She either was neglected or she has caught something and they don't realize it or they are denying it.

She has been fussy all day but that's normal for her. She's been here for 2 months now and don't think I've had a day where she's not somewhat kind of fussy.

She does now have a low grade fever, and it is possible they dose and dropped.

Great!! Sarcasm. I hope it’s not HFM. I think sores can get on their bottom. Ugh. You going to keep this family?

I asked dcm if she saw a doctor about the "rash" and she had not. I told her it did not look like a normal "diaper rash" more like an infection and since DCG also had a fever, she would need to take dcg to the doctor and I gave her BC health evaluation form (with a QR code added to the bottom that links my illness policy) I also sent home a medication form, so she would have it incase meds are prescribed.

Oh boy. It sounds like a yeast or bacterial rash. The baby having a fever now would make me think this has been going on for days and would really concern me . Shame on the parents.

pleaae update when they get the diagnosis

They paid for next week but didn't show or message this morning. So I am trying to decide on a wording to see how Dcg is doing.

Dcm just texted, Dcg has a fever today over 100.

Yesterday when she messaged that Dcg had an appointment, she said that Dcg didn't have a fever. So something is going on with Dcg, she has to be sick or something.

Doctor says diaper rash and no fever. But parent keep child home Wednesday for a fever.

Other than dcm giving Tylenol to Dcg would there be any other reason for a fever to come and go?

More than likely it’s that they’re giving Tylenol
Or ibuprofen and not putting 2 and 2 together that that’s why the fever is gone. Sometimes I have to clearly state fever reducing Tylenol And/or fever reducing Ibuprofen

Okay so the doctor isn't thinking during the exam and asked if meds were given?

I might have edit bc form to have the doctor indicate if parents have given any meds.

Has anyone ever heard of a recurrent fever? https://my.clevelandclinic.org/healt...ecurring-fever

Yes! It was long enough ago that I don't remember all of the specifics but my ds went through this. If I remember correctly, every Wednesday, he'd spike a fever, look as though he was coming down with something but then be fine within the next day or two only to have the pattern repeat itself each Wednesday for about the next month or two before stopping on its own. I mentioned it to his pediatrician who kind of shrugged it off, saying it wasn't unusual for young kids to experience that. He never gave me a name for it but years later, I saw an article about recurrent fever similar to the one in your link and it sounded exactly like what we experienced with my son.

I too have had incidents where fever reoccurs off and on over the course of a week or two. I've never had a situation where it ended up being anything serious but it has happened so I don't think it's rare just not super common.

So this happened to my DD when she was out of the teething stage. I called the doctor and they said not to worry. She would act and play fine but be warm. I am starting to think that it is more common but most don't catch it.

DCG1 came back today with a normal temp. She's eating better than last week. It is raining today so no recess. It is nap time and she is not sleeping, so she will probably fall asleep later. When it is time to get up.

she still takes two am naps, one after arrival and then an hour later. My attempts to combine them have completely failed partial because her attendance is all over the place.

Well, I gave DCG pizza sauce for lunch on Tuesday and the next diaper 30 minutes later, she broke out in a rash. I told DCM that she had a rash and that it can be caused by food.

We have discussed it and DCM noted that it happen after some lemon the other day too. So she may react to citrus and may not be able to have any until she is potty trained.

So it may have been a diaper rash but not chafing, instead a reaction to food.
