Snotty Noses

Most of my kids here have snotty noses today. No other symptoms. My allergies are killing me, but I hate it. I hate everything about it. It makes me crazy like everyone is infecting everyone. I feel like I need to get over it. I have to figure out how to do that though. Do you feel that way?

Are their parents treating it? If not, they need to. There are several 24 hour pediatric allergy receptor blockers out there, now. Non-drowsy. Cheap, easy to give. There is no excuse to let your kids feel miserable, anymore. None.

I agree!!! One of my parents were giving her kids non drowsy allergy meds and the one dcb would cry all day because he was so tired. I will say Mom is a chaotic unorganized person that never sticks with a schedule. She always "loses track of time". So I don't really believe her when she blames the meds. I hate when they give me untrue stories like I'm a moron.

Yes! This drives me crazy too. I deal with it in the summer months by mostly staying outside where they can spread out and germs can blow away. At least it makes me feel better about it when we're out in the sun and fresh air. I did put my foot down with one about 2 weeks ago but she had drug the stomach flu in a few weeks prior and we were all sick one after another for weeks because of it. I needed a sickness break. Bad. So I said I don't care if it's a sniffle. I don't want it here.

If a child here has pouring snot coming from their nose I send them home. I don't care the reason. It's the parents job to deal with it. And it's 99% of the time not allergies.

I hate it too. My kiddos are all old enough to blow and wipe their own snotty noses so I don’t have to touch it but it’s still gross. I wish parents wouldn’t send a child who has a nose that is constantly running yellow snot. Sometimes they wipe their nose with their hand instead of getting a tissue and then touch toys or play ground equipment. It’s constant reminding them to get a tissue and wipe hands. And the sneezing. One day last week a child sneezed right into the sensory bin. Yuck! I had to close it and clean it up.

If it is clear snot, I don’t mind & usually it’s just allergies/teething. If I see green snot/if I have to wipe the green snotty nose more than 3x in an hour, I warn the parent to treat the symptoms or I’ll be excluding. After 48 hours, I start excluding.

I have had to exclude children twice. Both times I excluded, both children had ear infections that were going untreated. Trust your gut!

What drives me crazy the most, it's not the fact that all the kids have runny noses, it's watching parents use their own clothes to blow their child's nose....or use their pinky to dig out a boogy and then wipe it on themselves...eeewww
