  • Weird Requests From Parents

I have first times parents to a 15 month old. He started here a couple months ago. Occasionally they ask if they can take the pacifier home that I keep here and they bring a different one (same style). At first it was at the end of the day and I thought maybe they had lost theirs and needed to borrow the one they gave me for the night. Well one morning I got a text asking if I could exchange the one I have and they will bring a new one...I thought that was so strange. The Dad at drop off admitted it was the Mom who wanted to trade so she could clean the one I had! I've never had a parent request that...does she not trust me to clean the pacifier? Well I only let him have a pacifier for naps and have been working with him on not using it for naps, and he's been doing really well. She texted today right before pickup if she could have the pacifier. When she arrived I handed it to her and told her she can keep it as he doesn't need them anymore and hasn't used it in two weeks. She seemed pleasantly surprised, but said alright. I think they are the type of parent who keeps a pacifier in his mouth all the time. He didn't babble or talk much when he first started, but has improved quite a bit over the last couple months.
Anyone have any strange requests from parents you would like to share?

A parent asked me to text pics of her toddlers poop to know what the color is. Mind you, the child also poops at home so its not like she never sees her childs poop. I insted sent a pic of a paint color it closely resembled lol. Gross. I dont want poop pics in my phone.

Years ago, I had a dc baby who was very constipated. Her mother asked me to keep an eye on her and if she started to poop but couldn't get it out on her own, to basically get in there with a Q-tip and help dig it out for her. Heck no!

I had a DCD explain to me (almost step by step) how to "monitor" the diaper rash his 11 month old was beginning to develop.

Mind you this parent brings the child in a wet over night diaper quite frequently and has never ever brought diaper cream or any type of product for the child.

The child has been here since they were 3 months and the parents are well aware of the fact that I've been doing this longer than they themselves have been alive.

I had a dcp do that with potty training. “Just ask him every little bit ‘Do you need to go potty?’” Parent then realized what they were doing and said, “Wait…..you know what to do.” 🤣

I was once asked not to tell a child her poop stinks....because that's negative language.

Lol 😆. That reminds me of when I first started doing daycare. I signed on an 8 month old and mom said they don't tell him "No" they say "Phewy" instead. I thought no child would ever take me seriously if I told them Phewy anytime they are doing something they shouldn't be...lol.

lol! Well won't she be surprised when she's older and realizes her poo stinks just like every one else's lol!!

BeeNature I've had a parent say something similar. They wanted me to use only positive language verses saying the word no or using phrases like "Stop that" or Don't poke your friends with your fork" Instead they wanted me to rephase everything in a positive tone such as " Let's do something else" or "Let's poke our food instead of Suzie"

I mean I totally understand the reasons why negative language is not necessarily correct in the ECE world but seriously.... who ever made that rule or suggestion more than likely never worked in ECE or had children of their own. My DC parents are lucky I don't insert the "F" word into my daily language.
