What’s your policy on a DCK getting a strep test and returning?

Our policy is that if a child is sent home sick then they can't return for twenty four hours after symptoms appear and if they are sick & at home when they return and bring a doctor's note then they get half off their tuition for the week

Depends what the results are of the strep test. I prefer the test that takes longer as the rapid test can often times give false results. Once the child is confirmed to have strep they cannot return until they've been on antibiotics for a minimum of 24 hours AND is well enough to participate as normal with no other excludable symptoms.

I know it was not a rapid test. This was what I was thinking about doing. Just curious. Thank you!

The kid would not be returning until the test results were back and if showing negative, I'd want to know what it is then. If positive, like BC said, at least 24 hours after starting an antibiotic and feeling well enough to participate in daycare activities. I had a dcg who brought it into my daycare the first year I opened. Dcm didn't tell me until after everyone else, including me, got it and then it was, "Oh, yeah...I probably should have told you...". It took months for us to get rid of because it kept cycling through my own family. (It turned out, my husband was asymptomatic but positive. He kept giving it back to us until he was put on an antibiotic.) Strep is a 4-letter word in my house.
