Can a sex offender live near an in-home daycare? I know there’s rules about schools,parks, childcare centers but are home daycares protected?

Contact your local police. It depends on several factors regarding his parole or probation. The police will have that information for you.

If he was there first, there is nothing that can be done. Be sure to check your local registry map often, you'd be shocked at how many just don't check in and the public is not told. We also are not told when they move in or out of neighborhoods. We have to look it up, that burden is on us, they only have to make to information "available". It is frustrating. The laws seem to be about protecting criminals more than their victims.

I was first. He just moved to the neighborhood a couple weeks ago. Not sure of his exact address but just wondering if the courts would have even allowed him to get a home near me

In theory, if they could not live near a DC then if you wanted to open a DC then you would have check the registry for offenders before you could open.

He is allowed to live where ever he chooses. He has served his time and is registered. You are notified simply because you are a licensed child care but since you are not allowed to leave children unsupervised, he poses no more of a threat than anyone else does. Actually less because he is known to the authorities and under whatever restrictions they've placed him on. The bigger danger are those offenders that haven't been caught yet that the public is not aware of.

My local ordinances do not classify in home family child care as a center and classifies my neighborhood as a residential meaning ANYONE can live in the neighborhood. I AM however notified under state laws if someone that is a level 3 moves into the area.

I personally don’t care if he moved into my neighborhood. Based on the info that was given he went after two teenage females that he knew/family. The risk of him “attacking me” is low and You’re right it’s the people that haven’t been caught that we should be afraid of. But I had a daycare parent make a comment about how scary that a sex offender might be near a daycare and was very concerned. I had to roll my eyes a little and think yeah right like he’s going to go after a two-year-old inside of a house.

Honestly, I don't think the city (generally) cares or follows up with any regulations. We get a general automated mailing when a registered offender moves in within a few blocks. But- I live literally right next door to an elementary school and have offenders within a mile. There is low income housing right next to a neighboring city school and there are offenders living there too. I just make sure my own schoolagers are educated on how to protect themselves and what to do if they feel threatened.

My state had laws preventing them from living within 1000 feet, but those have since been repealed. I was unaware of that until this morning. My sheriff still has a social media page that streams them 24/7 and updates regularly. The most recent is a female middle school teacher who was sleeping with her students. There was another female middle school teacher convicted here just four years ago. The others in my area were statutory or familial. Some plead just to make the legal fees and family damage go away, they still claim their innocence and hope when their accuser gets help they will come forward with the truth.
