  • Hiding Daycare

Does anybody hide daycare when not open? What I mean is....is your house overrun by your daycare? If not, how do you do it?

I feel like every closet and crack of my house has daycare stuff in it. My basement (which only has large windows, no doors) is completely daycare stuff. I'm trying to find a happy medium.

I wish I could build a separate building just daycare.

I did in home for 10 years but have built on a separate room with kitchen/bathroom for 20 years.....it is VERY HARD when it's in home space and wears on you! As I get older, I find I 'chunk' more things partially because I don't need the stuff and partially because we receive yearly grants for about the past 4 years so why keep the old when I'm getting so much new. Since our QRIS has changed I find 'less is more'....just reached a point that I'm so tired of the stuff.....still cleaning out things but my pile is dwindling fast. I do understand where you are coming from....no fast answers as we used every bit of space when the daycare was in-home and still use too much with the separate room.....just hang in there!

Thanks so much. I appreciate knowing that someone feels the same way.

When I had infants, I felt this way. I had pack ‘n plays in every where that I’d set up Monday and tear down Friday. My cabinets/pantry were filled with bottles, utensils, bottle warmers, baby food, formula, snacks, etc. My anxiety was in overdrive. Once I stopped taking infants, I found I had less clutter. I know part of feeling like I don’t have DC clutter now is because my DDs are the same age as my DCK. I’m sure in 10 years, I will think differently. 😂

I don’t store toys in my living room and my DDs aren’t allowed to play in the living room all the time. I’ve had this rule since my oldest was 2YO. They have a dedicated playroom for that.

DCK personal belongings go in their cubbies, which are in the play room, just off of the front door. Their cups are stored with my DD’s cups, just on another shelf. I keep my second table and the DCK cots in the garage so I don’t have to look at them when they’re not in use. I also have a dedicated cabinet for craft supplies, curriculum and paperwork. Outside toys are stored in the shed when not in use.

I thrive in a clutter free environment, I totally understand this!

Yes I have day care every where. I do my best to confined it, I have one cupboard exclusively for DC dishes. (A cupboard that we never found a good use for.) I put cribs, changing table and large toys into the play space behind the couch.

I have a large room dedicated to daycare use so most of the toys are in there, along with the nap cots, changing table, etc. I still have a lot of daycare stuff throughout the rest of the house, though. Most of it is hidden in drawers, behind cabinet doors, in closets, the garage, cellar and attics so it's not visible to anyone who visits but I live for the day I can purge it all. The positive in having daycare stuff stored in almost every room of my house is that I can factor that space into my time/space calculations when I do taxes so for now, it helps more than it hurts.
