So, DCG 3 just got dropped off and saying that her older school age sister was puking this morning. I got a text from DCM this morning saying she would be dropped off by grandma, but no mention of any illness in the family. I'm so paranoid of my family or DC kids catching something before our vacation next week. I don't have anything in my policies excluding children for family illnesses. In my area area I am allowed to mask children 3 and up since the pandemic 2 years ago, and she is used to doing that on occasion when she has had cold symptoms...she has one on right as a precaution. What would you do? Ask the parents, or exclude for the next two days? Let her attend, but keep her separate from the other kids? She's the oldest...all the others are under two, except my daughter who is two.

Would You Ask The Parents?

I would ask mom ASAP if anyone in the family is sick and mention what the child said and that if something happens then she will be getting a call for pickup immediately and if a child is sick regardless of if they get sick at daycare or at home, they have to be with out symptoms for 24 hours. If they are sick longer than that, they get a 1/2 rate on tuition if they bring a doctor's note!Last edited by Springvalley; 12-15-2022, 10:38 AM.Christy Sewell

I’m following my illness policy to a “T.” I don’t exclude when siblings are sick because everyone’s immune system is different.
All of my DCK were healthy last week. This week, I have been sending them home with green runny noses and persistent coughs left and right. IMO, persistent is coughing 10x or more in a 10-15 minute period. If they’re not old enough to cover their cough before they cough, they’re going home.

We'll DCG is saying she needs to go to the bathroom but isn't able to and her stomach is hurting. I asked mom for pickup. She's not going to be happy but I don't care at this point. This family has brought in the majority of our stomach bugs since I started watching for them 4 years ago. Ruined our Thanksgiving and my son's birthday 3 years ago with one, and me and my husband's 20 year anniversary last year. Just so tired of illnesses.

If she had a stomach bug last night, she’s still sick….it doesn’t go away that quickly! Hopefully everyone stays well.

Generally I don't exclude well children regardless of what a sibling has. Even if the sibling attends care. However, IF there is a repeating cycle of illness or illnesses going around I may ask that parents keep ALL household members home if any one is sick. Especially prior to a holiday. Which decision I make depends HIGHLY on the parent and my relationship with them.
