  • Stomach Virus?

DCG was out Friday and Monday with what DCP believe was a stomach virus. Her last symptoms were Sunday. She returned yesterday, DCM kept her out for several days (yes, I appreciate this family!)

She just had a blowout, 15 minutes after I checked her and she was dry. Could this be the same thing or possibly food related?

My guess is that They probably did a bland diet and now that regular food is being introduced. I wouldnt think a stomach bug would last a week unless something else is going on

Was she throwing up? And her last throw up was Sunday? It could be a 2 part virus. The stomach virus my youngest just had, her diarrhea didn’t show up until 4 days after start of virus. So she threw up Wednesday. I knew she was down and out for a couple days but by Friday evening I thought we were good. Then diarrhea came Saturday. And the kids that gave it to us were out a long time and still managed to give it to us. It stays in the system too long. It’s really annoying.

Back in April of 2022, two kids came down with adenovirus 40/42 something like that, I know because another child that I watched caught it and had to be hospitalized. So they figured out which virus it was. Anyway nasty stomach virus in little kids and it lasted at least a solid week for each kid. It was diarrhea then throwing up. It seems to be one symptom first then another follows.

after my experience, ideally toddlers and babies should stay home 2 weeks after getting any stomach virus. 🤣 the 24 or 48 hour rule does nothing for these viruses.

The virus was both vomit and diarrhea. That’s why I thought it was weird she had it again a few days later.

No kidding!! You literally watch it go thru every kid in daycare if they come back too soon 😅

Could be good old rotavirus. Yes, babies are given Rota teq as a kind of prevention but it's not 100%.

That’s been going around or this year.

I would take her off high-fiber and acidic foods and dairy immediately and see if she continues with diarrhea. I send home after two instances of diarrhea.

I do too. Mom said she didn’t have anymore yesterday. If more become sick then we know it was a virus I guess 🤷‍♀️

BRAT diet for a few more days should help.

I would also consider whether or not the child was given antibiotics.

Thank you! No antibiotics. DCM just kept her home until she was certain it had passed.
