I skip both Mothers and Father’s Day and leave it up to family to celebrate on their time
There are way too many absentee parents, odd family dynamics and other “stuff” for me to want to get involved
I wish I could. Maybe next school year I will institute is as being "best practice" or something. I sent home gifts from Mother's Day from their child. I can't get away with skipping it this time and my creativity is dead due to the dragging on of the aging out crowd.
How do you think a fathers day card with a simple handprint inside and a $10 lowes card sounds? Too wife-ish? Ugh, I don't want to deal with glue, photos or wood.
Should I just eat some cheese with that whine and step up to bat? Probably.
I have NOTHING planned either and I need to do it tomorrow so it’s ready on Friday. for Mother’s Day I was very creative. I got framed canvas’ from the Dollar Tree and I had the kids put their hand prints on it with a poem that said “This is the hand you used to hold when I was xx years old. Happy Mother’s Day, love xxxx” then I put them into gift bags.
The popular thing I’ve seen this year is an upside down handprint made into a fish that says “Dad I’m hooked on you” and I think I’m going to do that.
I will check that out. I do have a laminator, so maybe even taking that concept and making a bookmark, then putting it inside a book of bedtime stories with name, date and handprint inside? Thinking out loud, here....
we thought ahead for once (which never happens). we like OVER father's day-ed this year. We did hands that said I love you and then an accordion folded paper that says "this much" in between. A canvas with a boot print then the child's foot over it that says "daddy your my hero". This was achieved with one of my old hiking boots . And our last piece was a picture frame with puzzle pieces around the edges. We posed each child (and siblings) in front of a wall with a cute sign that said "I love you to pieces" So far, we have sent home 3, and the fathers loved them
Totally forgot the Fathers Day deal till I saw this thread yesterday. Have quickly put together the 'hooked on dad' craft which I googled last night.....and done so there is that for another year!
I would usually have it done in the next 5 hours since only two are supposed to be here tomorrow. I am so not feeling it today. I just want them to go home. Four parents dropped off in flipflops and shorts. One had kayaks strapped on top of the car. It's hot and humid. There were three snakes inside the fence (one in playground/one in field) this morning. One of those was a pit viper (canebrake) and no one wants to go back out. The ham steaks meant for lunch smelled bad, so I am scrambling for a substitution and am left with BBQ pork sandwiches (sticky sauce) or Spaghetti (stains), both equally messy and high maintenance. I already did scrambled cheese eggs and blueberries this morning, my dues are paid in advance.
I am in a mood. I am thinking only kids who attend tomorrow will participate in crafting. Isn't that how most places are? I have not even set eyes on a Dad in months. I don't do crafts in the summer, anyway. They know this.
Aggghhhh
Oh, who am I kidding. We all know I am going to get it done. I. Just. Don't. Want. To.
I know the black snakes were after the viper, so I get it and appreciate it. The kids, not so much. I went with Spaghetti, it is almost done, now. Instead of handprints (again), I went with printouts (smaller) and water paints for the bookmarks. I grabbed garden twine from DH's shed. Shh! They are drying in front of a box fan, now, will laminate at naptime. I let the kids each pick a book from a new classroom set I just bought since I can't get out today. I can't decide if I want to slap handprints in them, or not, they are paperbacks. One hour until lunch.
