  • Do You Ever Have Different Rules For Different Families?

The standard rules are the same for everyone and enforced equally. But I have two families on vacation our if the country (and different time zones) now. One is returning and keeping dck home one extra day to allow everyone to settle back into our time zone. The other one is planning to come from the airport and leave dck here and go home to sleep (they took 3 extra days for them off work to adjust). it boggles my mind that they’d bring their exhausted child.

weather is finally getting nice and I am sure dck will sleep the whole day at daycare, which means we can’t go on walks.

I never told the other family to take the extra day to adjust. They just knew it would be tough and did it, now I’m wondering if it’s too late to tell family #2 that they need to do that too. Calling them for pick up or dck is sleeping would end up with me frustrated since I’m sure I’ll have to go through and call emergency list since they’ll be sleeping

I would text immediately "Upon further thought, I'd prefer you keep DCK home until X day so that they are able re-adjust to our time zone. Thank you for understanding and for your consideration in respecting the needs of all childcare children. See you Wednesday (or whatever the next day is) "

NO WAY would I allow them to drop their child off straight from the airport. The things parents do now days boogles my mind.

Right? It boggles my mind. Their airfare alone was more than my whole vacation budget for the year (they bragged about the cost). Then in the same breath they ask if I can discount their vacation tuition which made me laugh and say ‘how can I ever plan
Of going on a luxury vacation if I discount MY rates every time someone else goes on one?’

If you do not say something to them now. On the day they drop off, wait 30 minutes and call for pick up, Let them know that their child is tired, sluggish, and unable to participate like expected so you will see them in 30.

It would really piss me off that DCP are going home to sleep and they’re dumping DCK on me to deal with while they rest up before work. I absolutely wouldn’t let DCK come until he’s adjusted.

I have a DCF that travels a lot because their older child is in a competitive sport. If they travel over the weekend, which is very often, they will keep DCK home Monday (and sometimes Tuesday) until DCK is well rested/so they can spend time with him since the focus was on his older sibling all weekend. I am so thankful they do this!!! I don’t have any behavior problems out of this child.

I made a few policies based on their conscious parenting style. They’ve always kept me in mind. I wish every family I had did half of what they do.

Yes but totally doesn’t surprise me anymore.

This falls under whatever awake and alert policy you have. If a child is too fatigued to make it through the program, that child needs to be at home, regardless of whether the reason is illness or jet lag.

If having a conversation with the parents now is uncomfortable, imagine how uncomfortable the conversation would be if you had to tell a state investigator that you overlooked a serious illness or injury in a child because you just assumed it was jet lag leaving them lethargic all day.

Doctors' offices are making people wait 72 hours after travel to be seen, maybe it is time for daycares to start the policy?

I have no personal experience in it, but clearly, they have enough to have gone through the effort of enforcing it, harshly. One lady was literally removed from the patient list and told to find a new provider.
