So, I'm loosely following the school calendar next year. I will be closed the same days for the holiday breaks, but will continue to be open in the summer. Our school district does a 4 day week with one 5 day week a month. Most school months, there is also a teacher in-service day on one Friday. So, I will be open on the Fridays there is school and/or teacher in-service day (minus 2 of the in-service days because they are over a holiday break).

How would you phrase this in your handbook? I do have the calendar for school next year, so I am working on one for daycare to pass out. I currently have it set up in my handbook like this:

"Daycare is closed the following days:"

But, I obviously don't want to list every closed day. Any advice on how to word this in my handbook?
    Thank you!

Have you ever considered just creating a calendar and printing it or emailing it with all your dates closed or what have you? (Then you could post the calendar too)

I use the daily connect calendar and just go through and mark anything that I'm closed for, then they get a notification before it happens and they can view the calendar anytime.

Before I got daily connect I used my DC email calendar and just shared it with them.

Personally if I don't have kids in the school system then I don't pay attention to the school calendar. So with that said if your clients have enrolled their first child they're less likely to know the local school schedule, so at least you should link or attach their calendar to the message.

I have in my contract that I am closed these professional, emergency, vacation, holidays, etc.… However, I also say “days are not limited to these days”… then that covers me if something comes up I want to close for… I list the days under each heading within my contract… And I give out a monthly calendar but I scan a newsletter, calendar and a couple of curriculum, pages into one document and text it to my parents each month… They just go by the calendar I give them monthly… Very few actually keep up with their contract with the list of days… And I charge 52 weeks per year… during interview I tell clients that although the days closed may look to be excessive… It is inevitable, that I have doctors, dentist, and need vacation time… Their child will be staying with me… Therefore, my self-care will affect the care of their children…. And no, I did not come up with all of this by myself but many years ago my mentor helped me lol.

I have already posted once but after reading your post, I thought maybe you could simply tell clients in a newsletter that there would be changes as you will be following the local school system and they will receive a monthly calendar to keep them informed. I give my monthy calendar out each month two weeks before the next month begins so they have two weeks to prepare for the upcoming month. . Make sense?
