Good morning ! Hoping everyone had a wonderful weekend!
Thought I'd start a morning chat thread so we can talk about whatever random things come up!

    Today we celebrate:

National Kids and Pets Day ~ raises awareness of the importance of picking the right pet for children at the right time. It’s an important decision that can lead to a lifetime of bonding between pet and child. The day also celebrates the bonds children and pets can share and a day remember safety where our pets and children are concerned. There are many benefits of having a pet in a child’s life. From fostering natural nurturing abilities to developing responsibilities, pets have a lifelong impact on a child’s development.

National Pretzel Day ~ recognizes one of America’s favorite snacks. A bag of nice crunchy, salty pretzels or a big, warm, soft, cinnamon pretzel is the question of the day. Either one is an excellent choice.
There are a few different accounts of the origin of the pretzel. Most people agree that it does have a Christian background, and they were developed by the monks. According to The History of Science and Technology, in 610 AD, “an Italian monk invents pretzels as a reward to children who learn their prayers. He calls the strips of baked dough, folded to resemble arms crossing the chest, pretiola (little rewards).”

National Audoban Day ~ honors the birth of John James Audubon (April 26, 1785 – January 27, 1851).

Audubon was a French-American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter noted for his extensive studies of American birds and his detailed illustrations of the birds in their natural habitats. Audubon’s greatest work wasThe Birds of America which is considered one of the finest ornithological works ever completed. His work in this book contains more than 700 North American bird species with 435 hand-colored, life-size prints of 497 bird species.

Hoping everyone has a safe and happy day!

I've had pets my whole life as has my children. I think they are definitely an important part of many people's lives. I've only had cats and dogs though and nothing odd or unique. Some I remember more than others but I have definitely loved them all!

I am not really a fan of pretzels and have never had one of those giant ones they serve with cheese. No idea why but they've just never been something I've liked.

I do LOVE birds though and am a huge fan of bird watching and photographing. I own several copies of John Audobon's Birds of America books. They are always within reach near a window so we can easily grab it to help identify whatever bird that happens to visit my feeder.

Good morning! My only pet is my hamster- who my boyfriend and I call "the most spoiled hamster in North Dakota!
I'm a big fan of soft pretzels and those mini pretzel-wrapped hot dogs that they sell at the pretzel place in the mall. I'm hungry now!

I have a dog and a cat but the dog belongs to my son and I got the cat to make sure my snakes/mice stay away as I'm near a creek in the country. I don't mind animals being around but do not want to be the primary caretaker.

My youngest son works with horses on my brother's farm and my other brother is a businessman but would have been a farmer if there had been money in it as he has his tractors and equipment and enjoys that sort of thing. When he drives by my house on his tractor (we live side by side), I go out on my porch and sing "green acres is the place to be, farm living is the life for me"

          Good Morning!
We've only had dogs too. Unless you count the loose parrot who befriended us last summer by flying into our home. It was short lived until we found her a new home through a parrot rescue.
Pretzels... if I could have carbs, I'd love them. Maybe with some honey mustard. Yum.

            Hi it is me, 284878.

I have a cat currently but have had dog, fish, hamster, and bird in the past.

I like soft pretzels, I don't use mustard on them.

My grandma was a big bird watcher. I have little interest other than I do like seeing and hearing them.

              Good Afternoon,
I have one cat who loves having the kids around and misses them on the weekends! I love soft pretzels that are plain with just a little salt on them. Bird wise I bought a feeder at Christmas time and ever since then I am hooked on the different birds that come around. Make it a great day everyone!

Kids and pets are an everyday thing, here. We are actually having soft pretzels with cheese dip for pm snack, today. We also have new eggs in all six birdhouses this morning. So, that worked out pretty well. I had no idea...

I can't believe yesterday the high temp was 50F and today they predicted 80F, what a jump

So are we using both sites or should we start posting here instead of the old place?
I imagine we well have a private Forum someday ?

Good Morning everyone! Raining/drizzling here today... suppose to be a high of 52F today but dreary and cloudy.

                  Today we celebrate:

National Babe Ruth Day ~ On April 27, baseball fans worldwide honor one of baseball’s all-time greatest players on National Babe Ruth Day.

George Herman “Babe” Ruth, Jr., born on February 6, 1895, in Baltimore, Maryland, was nicknamed “the Bambino” and “the Sultan of Swat.” Spending 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), he played for three teams from 1914 to 1935.

National Devil Dog Day ~ enjoy a treat in the name of National Devil Dog Day! The day honors the service members dubbed with the nickname and the devilish snack cake.

With a layer of cream filling sandwiched between two layers of devil’s food cake, Devil Dogs became a tasty single-serving treat in the mid-1920s. Drake’s first started making the cakes in 1926.

National Prime Rib Day ~ annually recognizes this special meal favorite on April 27th each year. Sometimes known as the “King of Meats,” Prime Rib is a choice cut from one of the eight prime cuts of beef.

I have never been a baseball fan but know who Babe Ruth is...thank you Sandlot. Good movie for those who've never seen it! lol!
I had NO idea what a Devil Dog was and had to google it. Not a huge fan of chocolate but it does look interesting.
Prime Rib? Yes! Please! A side of horseradish and Mmmmm! Yummy!

I think baseball is a very boring sport. But I've known about babe Ruth since it was a kid I think my dad told me and I watched the Lou Gehrig story in school. I remember a debate and what the candy bar babe Ruth was named after, either babe Ruth himself or some president's baby named Ruth.

I've never heard of a devil dog either. Sounds like a hostess cake, little debbie's, tastykake to me.

I'll take prime rib if cooked right with a baked potato and green vegetables don't care which ones, well then again I don't like lima beans and maybe a few others.
