Today is the day, I am getting broadband, maybe.....?🤷♀️
My sister calls me a month ago, she tells me that our neighbor has gotten the broadband company to come a few more feet down the road by paying them, and now we are at the end of the line. She then found out that the company is having a special this month and installation is free plus one free month. I talked to my DH after the kids are in bed and he agrees.
They start installing it, laying the line and the neighbor notices something is going on.
Well, yesterday DH was outside and so was the neighbor. The neighbor and DH start chatting, he tells DH that he stopped the workers from installing the line. He figures that he paid to have the line extended that he owns the line. He asked DH how much we are paying to install the line. DH did not remember and kept telling him that, eventually the neighbor guessed that we were paying $200 and dropped it. The neighbor plans on calling and demanding a partial refund of the $1750 that he paid since they are getting more clients because of him. (at least 4 houses can now get internet because he extended the line).
DH asked me when he got back to the house, how much we were paying. He was shocked when I said nothing, DH was glad he did not remember when he was talking to the neighbor.
BG: This neighbor does not get along with anyone, except sometimes us. DH and him worked together for a while but he was let go. My sister can not stand the neighbor.

Today I'm closing at noon if you get a allergy test. All except for one parent confirmed that they would be here to pick up. They close early is on a year the calendar, in the newsletter, and I sent an email reminder at the beginning of the week.
When I told the school age boy that he was not getting on the bus tonight, but he was being picked up, he didn't know. His response to me was for me to send an email to his teacher. I told him that I was unable to do that, because his parents have never given me permission to talk to his teacher.
So if I want to get to my appointment in time, I'm going to have to send a fourth notice to Mom and Dad that I'm closing at noon. This is the same family that recently showed up on a day was closed and picked up early on a day that I had canceled early close.
Earlier this week mom sent me a new email address, so I was sure to use her new email address to send the reminder email that I was closing today at noon.

We got home in time to get DD off the bus and I get a text from dcm. DCB has gotten on the bus and gma is on her way to get him. Lol I had my SIL waiting here in case we didn't make it home on time and I considered telling her that if DCB was on the bus to tell the driver to take him back to school. I guess my instincts was right about him remembering.
On Tuesday, the bus went back to the school to get him because he didn't get on. (He is 8 and been riding to my house for two years)

It was a long week. My DH was out of state for most of it, just got home last night. I am planning chili cheese tots with black beans for tomorrow with a binge fest of Justified and Game of Thrones. We finished Deadwood, The Americans, Homeland, Madame President, The Good Fight and The Wire. Basically we are catching up with all the shows we missed while raising 3 kids with varying hobbies/interests/sports.
It is new to us to have no cable or home phone lines, but man are we loving it. Team Roku. Our internet company finally got a competitior in town for the first time and the difference is amazing. I don't even know how we functioned before.
It is supposed to be ridiculously cold and windy tomorrow, so we will most likely end up cutting up trees, again. These past two, soaking wet, boggy years have made the roots on my property about useless (pine, oak and birch).

Oh, and Boardwalk Empire. That was fun, too. We watch one episode per night, then a few on the weekends.Last edited by Cat Herder; 01-28-2022, 11:37 AM.

On Thursday, I had an appointment for allergy testing. I knew for a while that I have allergies or sensitivities but did not know the extent. I went to solve what ingredients in the foods that I eat bothered me. I will not know the final results but according to the tech, I reacted to 25 of the 30 environmental and 14 of the 16 foods that she tested me for.

Yikes! That's a lot of allergies. Hopefully once you know what to do about them, you'll feel better than you must feel now. My dd has so many food allergies she finally had to meet with a dietician to figure out what she CAN eat. Her diet is very limited now but when she stays on it, she feels better than when she's off her diet.

I find out Thursday the details of the results. I will now know what I will react to and the symptoms to watch for plus I now can tell anyone that calls me a picky eater to shove it, especially my one sister, who ironically has 2 dd with food allergies.
I told my DH that I do not know what I am going to do if the one food, fried eggs, I was told I was allergic to since childhood was 1 of the 2 that I did not react to and he burst into laughter.Last edited by Alwaysgreener; 02-01-2022, 09:32 PM.

That's just nuts! How do you even survive in those temps? I'm used to cold. Winter temps here can get into the sub-zero range but more like -2 vs -32 and the windchill is usually maybe -10, not -42! My car battery died when the temps were in the single digits last week. How do you keep your cars and plumbing working in the kinds of temperature you experience?

Maybe you need to visit Blackcat? ;-)
I had a licensor a few years back who experienced severe hot flashes. The first day I met her, she seemed fine until I noticed she looked a bit uncomfortable. Her face began to turn red and suddenly, she had sweat literally dripping down her face. It wasn't long before she looked as though she had just come in from the rain. I felt so bad for her! I'm lucky not to have experienced hot flashes. (Knocking on wood!) After witnessing her experience, I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones who don't get them. I hope yours ease up!

I don't do anything outwardly that anyone can see but I feel it coming on starting at my feet coming out the top of my head...LOL not funny but I get so hot 'my head is swooning'.....I do take vitamins black cohosh (two a day) per the doctor but some days I run about 150 degrees all day. Not good some days...some days I am fine!???Last edited by Annalee; 02-03-2022, 11:51 AM.

e.j. lol! Yes! This cold will cure any hot flash! lol!
When my DH's blood sugar gets low, he start sweating profusely. He looks like he ran a marathon on a 100F day! It starts pouring down his face and he looks pale and uncomfortable. It's gotten bad enough at times, we've actually had to carry extra clothing with so he could change. I told him that when I really start having hot flashes someday, he will be very sympathetic since he will understand how it feels for sure.

I started my business in 2020. To build my clientele, I bit off more than I could chew. In 2021, I made some changes, but I carried some resentment. I am not generally a negative person so I had to get rid of that feeling.
In 2022, I decided to change my mindset. I’m not a SAHM babysitting for extra cash. I am a legitimate business owner. I don’t work for anyone, I work for myself. So far I’ve enforced every policy even through DCP guilt trips.
We got hit with a major winter storm this week. I couldn’t get direct “we’re staying home” answers out of a couple of families so I made the decision for them... I closed, yesterday and today. This is an Act of God so I won’t be issuing any credits. I am watching the news this morning and I see most of the daycare centers in town are closed, too.
It feels good to have control over my business.
Happy Friday! ☕️Last edited by GirlMomma; 02-04-2022, 05:40 AM.

It definitely takes time to come into your own. Other providers can tell you what to do and even how to do it but sometimes you just have to experience the journey on your own in order to build that back bone and confidence you need to feel successful in your business. It is a journey we've all been on.
I used to read things other providers did/said or allowed and was aghast. I wondered "how they could let that happen" or "how can they be okay with that?" and then I realized that the things we allow or things we do or say are just as personal as the person/provider themselves.
If we enforce rules we are not comfortable with, it is just a recipe for disaster and the outcome is never positive. But if we have and enforce rules that work for US personally, it is so much more productive and so much more positive over all. Its also easy to allow or enforce those things we actually believe in. That is what makes this business so awesome! It's unique and individual for everyone.
I'm glad you are finding your way towards happiness in this profession!!

Blackcat31 thank you! It’s definitely a journey. I love that we all do different things with our businesses and it’s very helpful to see everyone’s perspective, too. But experience 100% stiffens the backbone LOL

Later than scheduled? Did they atleast let you know they would be late? Seems Mondays are either 'everyone shows up super early" or everyone is "running super late". There does not seem to be anyone that is punctual and on time on a Monday. Myself included...lol!
-
It was less than ten minutes, I give them a 15 minute window. I only have two families today and the second family was ten late too. Lol. The other two are not coming today.
-
Oh Okay, I see what you mean? I thought they might have scheduled for 8:00 and showed up at 9:00 or something but got it now, Perhaps they have to figure out the drive time etc. and will be more consistent as they settle in.
