I didn’t celebrate Halloween for the first time and will not be having Thanksgiving this year either. That’s a first. Not sure on Christmas either. Feeling like Scrooge this year. I want it to be over.
It feels as though all of the months are running into each other lately. It seems I just turn the page on the calendar on the 1st of the month (any month!) and a minute later, it's already the 15th and we're halfway through it! Weren't we celebrating the first day of summer just a few days ago?!
I remember when I was in college, complaining to my father that it felt like time was at a standstill and I was never going to be done with school. He used to tell me to enjoy my college years because once I did graduate, time would pick up speed and I'd be amazed at how quickly it would go by. He wasn't kidding! I don't like to wish my life away but I'm looking forward to Christmas break, too! Can't wait!! lol
Have you ever considered having your things on and keys in your hand whenever a parent picks up late or just on time/right at closing, even if you don't have to go anywhere?
I just started taking the normal sign in/out sheet away at 4:55 and putting the late one out. It tells a parent they are late and they owe a late fee without me having to tell them. I also make sure to let them know 3X they are terminated so they don't want to see that LATE sign out sheet and are usually pretty good about being here in plenty of time.
I don't care if it's their norm to always be running a bit late because it's not my issue. I used to try and be a bit understanding but I've also learned that if you given an inch, everyone will take a mile.
This is more of a I know you can get here earlier irritation then she's showing up late. She insisted that she needed a full day but they they will be anywhere from 10- 15 minutes after their contract in time to 45 minutes (due to a no drop off rule for the bus stop time) .
But it pick up she pushes it till the last minute, for a while she was picking up about 10 minutes early and then this week only 2 minutes early. I had her child ready to go for 10 minutes and had my children ready to go when she finally arrived. We were getting in the van while she was loading her child in her vehicle. (I stall so I don't pull out before her but basically we left at the same time.
Got some questions, maybe dumb questions, but I got some questions this morning
I was printing contracts/handbooks last night and my niece is going to help me make all this digital so.....for y'all that do everything digital/electronic...
Do you scan on your phone then email yourself the handbook/contract and save to PDF....
Do you use laptop or ipad.....
Do you have parents sign electronically on ipad or complete the forms on computer and email you back the forms.......
Go to print and go where it says the printer's name change that to save as PDF. Or click on save as and then choose PDF. (If you need more details on how to do this message me and I will send you some screenshots later)
My handbook I copy and paste into my website, I keep my policy file on my computer updated. I use Weebly, it's a free website and easy to set up.
Another option is to upload to Google docs like BC does. You'll need a Google/Gmail email to do that. (Google docs and email is free) then you would have to share the document with every person that ever requires about your child care.
I emailed the forms unless they need a hard copy and they have the option of printing, completing, and sending back or if they have the knowledge and know how to complete a PDF on their computer they can and digitally sign then send back. (I refuse to teach parents the steps on how to complete a PDF, if I did I would have to do it in person and that would defeat the purpose of sending them electronically)
Some of my forms are on my website and I've created jotforms, that I shared in another post that I link to my website for families to complete. Example I created a form for kid kare enrollment or about me forms know more about the children.
I do have one family that gets hard copy because they don't have a computer or printer at home.
I am so glad today is finally voting day. My community is so toxic right now because of all the >insert string of expletives< coming here to make a scene with their ridiculous "candidates". I can't wait until all of the stupid lines of busses roll tf out of here.
Just FYI the political ads on TV don't stop at midnight tonight you'll still see some tomorrow, at least that's what happened last time. I was still seeing them for about a week, I was seeing less but like they forgot to take him out of the rotation.
I block the texts, only stream ad free and toss the mailers. I do my own research and do not stick to party lines. They all take their turns dumping on us, I see no reason in being loyal to any of them. As long as the primary requirement to be elected is being rich, I will vote for the least likely to screw up the middle class since that is who actually pays for infrastructure and community services. The rich create jobs, so we need them, too. If we can help those who can't help themselves (not won't but Can't) then that makes me happy, too.
On the daycare side, the weather was gorgeous today and we got to spend an extra hour outside enjoying it. I am looking forward to a peaceful 3 day weekend and already have two books picked out. I plan to use the crock pot, a lot.
warm but drizzly/dark here.....three day weekend for me, too....much needed!!!! Supposed to be really cold Saturday so probably stay in pjs and watch me some college football ALL DAY!
I've had three openings for a while now; dcb3 begins next week; interview with 14 months old-family this afternoon; interview with 3 yr old-family tomorrow afternoon......we shall see!
Thanks y'all! I am leery always of new enrollees as they are like jeckyl and hyde when it comes to interviews. They know what to say to get in here but then turn once enrolled too many times or think NONE of the rules apply to them.
I have a family (DCK-3/DCK-1) picking up after lunch, just before nap today. They are heading to Disneyland. They won't be back until next week. They will fly in early Thursday morning. At drop off this morning DCD says the kids might be at daycare next Thursday in the afternoon but will let me know. I say "Aren't you guys flying in on Thursday?" DCD dad says yes but they might drop the kids off on the way home from the airport so they can go home and unpack. I just laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh....
Really I did laugh but then I said no.
Lately, I feel like I am on one of those hidden camera shows.
I played this morning some games with my grandchildren< then we cooked biscuits together and I inveted all my children to have a dinner on this lovely day😍😍😍
DCG2.5 new kid is here; walked right in but usually about the third day is the hardest but I'm happy about this morning going smoothly and arriving this early means she leaves early.....win-win.....
Received a call, text and PM (within minutes of each) Saturday afternoon from a parent needing childcare. It was obviously urgent so I responded. The parent needed childcare because she is giving birth this week and needs help.
I declined.
Nothing like waiting until the last minute to make a birthing plan. 😳
Alwaysgreener With all the illnesses going around - I wasn’t going to consider the one I had. Especially since she gave me 5 days to complete an interview and decide. I don’t want to be rushed 😂
Just got a call from care.com about child care; I think these people moving here from other states are using these organizations...that's my second call in two weeks?
It hasn't been all bad but I do remember now why I put off so long taking new kids.....no crying/whining but just that beginning stress as the oldies try you while you work closely with the newbies.
She could also be telling you about her constant temper tantrums in public that is preventing mom from finishing her grocery shopping, boarding her flight or renewing her driver's license. I was a kid who was hit a lot. I knew not to tell or it would get worse. I expected the adult I told to hit me for tattling. Look for other clues besides story telling. Don't grill her on it, though. Maybe read "chicken little" to the class and see what her discussion about the book tells you.
There is a commercial on locally that says "when a child says they are being abused, believe them" This commercial drives me nuts because the answer isn't, I believe you but I am listening to you and will look into it.
That commercial could get innocent parents/caregivers in deep trouble if everyone believes every child. One of my foster kids had a reputation of accusing the foster parents of abuse when she was unhappy. She accused me eventually and if they had just believed her, I would have been done.
Alwaysgreener I hate those commercials too! My DD has a bonus son and every time he has to follow the rules (bed tine, bath time etc) he says "I will tell my mom you are mean to me and that you hit me" simply because he knows he has the power to say anything and his mom will believe him. The mom and dad do not get along so it's a huge opening for the child to play each other and the older he gets the worse the behavior gets as well as the threats to tell on his parent to the other parent. It's tough but I agree with you... a child should never be believed at face value if their are no others warning signs or clues, but every allegation should be looked into.
We’re leaving as soon as the last kid is picked up today, and going to see the Goo Goo Dolls in a town about 1.5 hrs away. We’ll be cutting it close if a kid stays until closing time! Then driving back home afterward. A late night, but still looking forward to it.
