  • I have had an opening since the beginning of the year. I caught wind a nearby center is likely closing soon. So decided I would I advertise (for the third time since December) to see if I could get a couple of leads.

I have an interview scheduled tomorrow evening with a potential start date of 3/20! 🥳

    • My dh got me a heated hoodie for Christmas. It's got patches on the arms and the back that heat up. I wasn't wear it, I told him he could have it. But he got it out and charged the battery for me.

I'm trying it out today, 20 degrees out and the kids wanted to go out and I getting over that terrible cold last week just don't feel like it.

        Ohhhh! That sounds amazing!!!

    • Yesterday at pick up dcg 18 months cried because she didn't want to leave. She even reached out for me a little after I handed her off. (I was getting her ready to go when her mom arrived.)

I told Mom that she probably doesn't want to go back outside, that she didn't want to be outside today. Which wasn't a total lie, she did want to go inside but she also had fun outside until she got tried.

Now I am not feeling good about saying it. But I was trying to protect DCM feelings about Dcg not wanting to go home. Was I wrong?

        Not wrong—I get it!

I have one who does this sometimes, and I usually say something like, “I’m glad you’ve had a fun day here today.” Or “I’m happy you like to be here. I like having you here, too!” Then just wave and say goodbye.

    • HAPPY WEDNESDAY! Been cold here.....ready for SPRING to tease us with some warmer weather!

I just got an inquiry for an infant. I asked the parents work schedule and this was the reply.

Dcd 6-4 and DCM 9-6 (6-4 is common for factory workers that work 10 hours a lot)

So I see it as an 830 - 430 unless work is farther away, which happens 815 - 445 but the parent says DCM will be doing drop off and pick up. Asking for a quote for 8-5 or 6.

My unofficial hours are 7 to 5:30. Preferably I'd like everybody gone by 5:00. So I'm willing to do the 8:00 to 5:00 but I won't do 8-6. Everybody's allowed up to 9 hours.

How do I word it that dcd needs to step up and pick his child up?

I never, ever tell them the hours I am willing to work because they take advantage of it… as I’m sure you know. I always word it like this:

“I offer services based on the hours parents need childcare for work. These will be contracted hours so overtime fees will apply if you need childcare outside of those hours. However, childcare is limited to 9 hours/day.”

If they say they need care until 5:30/6, I say something similar to what BC suggested.

Side note: the woman that I did an interview with on Tuesday had a very similar schedule. Her hours were 8-6, dads were 6-4. She asked me to provide childcare from 8/9 until 5:30. How does that work..?

Just like I thought, dcd hours 6-4 are including commute. Dcd is now 7-3 and DCM is still 9-6 but she's a banker so her hours can vary.

      • Saw this the other day: Thursday, the most useless day of the week. It only serves as a reminder that it's been a really long week and it's not over yet!

          • Sleep deprived this morning......felt the crash coming on Friday evening but I kept running-doing things that needed done; slept all yesterday afternoon and woke up to alarms blaring this morning for hours; no gym; barely awake for daycare.

Yes!!! I’m still exhausted from the time change. We’ve also been on the go for the last 6 or 8 weeks with DD11’s activities. Every weekend, both Saturday and Sunday. Friday evenings, we’ve had birthday celebrations or sports banquets.

This weekend - we have NOTHING scheduled. At 5:01 on Friday, I will be in hibernation mode until Monday. 😎

I hear ya, GirlMomma.....I've asked one of my cousin's daughters to come over at 8 on Saturday so we can clean some walls, baseboards, etc. She's 14 and likes making extra money and I'm gonna use her legs to do some of my running!

            • It is Friday, one more week until my vacation/spring break starts. I am closed for part of Tuesday, so I only have 3.5 days next week. I actually closed all day to take DS to his eye check but will still have my SA kids put on the bus and take off.

                • It's a beautiful morning after some violent storms last night. I was spared this year, it seems. I only lost one tree and it is far enough back in the woods that I can leave it for next year's hibernation. My climbing roses that were decimated in 2019 actually began to bloom yesterday in a vibrant yellow and are finally over halfway across the arch. I think spring is going to be colorful again around here, this year.
