  • Touchscreen Laptop

My touchscreen died a year ago; so I bought the cheapest non-touchscreen thing and really loved my touchscreen as it helped my carpel tunnel issues; now researching and have found the dell inspirion which is what I recently had; but also have found the lenova; both at best buy at good deals. Any suggestions for y'all to be offered before I purchase?

I bought my in-laws the same touch-screen desktop. I have no experience with touch-screen laptops. It would be interesting to see the specs on each. The video card speed and and extra RAM are pretty important these days.

That is the same HP ENVY I bought. The first thing that happened was the hinge broke and I had a hard time opening and closing it. The screw inside the hinge broke and a piece of it got caught in the fan inside the laptop. I had to pay $150 to get the issue fixed. Then I was so leery of opening and closing it... lol! I liked the laptop itself as it worked fine but I just preferred my Lenovo.

I bought an HP laptop that is a 2-in-1 about two years ago. It’s a touchscreen & has the regular keyboard. You can flip closed so you can almost use it like a tablet… if that makes any sense at all! LOL I also bought a wireless mouse to go with it. I don’t have any idea about the RAM or anything else. LOL It does what I need it to do

Well, its cheap for a reason. 8GB or RAM isn't much but when you up it to the 16GB its another $300. These days I don't think 8GB of RAM is enough but I also don't know what you are using the computer for. Windows is a RAM hog. You might find after loading several programs that the RAM is being supplemented by your hard drive, which is much slower in tasking information. Hopefully your video card has its own RAM but if it doesn't it will eat up more of your motherboard RAM.

I order direct from websites. Stores like best buy add junk advertisment and trial programs that take up memory before you get it. However the advertisement are what bring down the cost which makes it look like you're getting a good deal but you're actually getting less memory.

My last computer is a touch screen from HP. It is a regular laptop vs the tablet/laptop girlmomma described.

            My two cents:
I owned a Lenovo a few years back. LOVED IT! Got a grant to buy a new laptop so I bought an HP ENVY. It served it's purpose but just didn't compare to my old one. I ended up buying another Lenovo (just to have a newer version as my old one was getting to be 10 yrs old) and haven't thought about it since!

I absolutely vote for Lenovo. They acquired IBM a few years back.
My current one is a Lenovo ideapad 320. It has a touchscreen and a DVD drive. They have wonderful customer service too!
Lenovo makes Thinkpad a military tested laptop designed to be taken on construction sites and other places one normally doesn't bring a laptop lol!

My brother works for HP and builds a lot of computers and he says most the HP desktops and laptops in stores like Best Buy/Walmart etc, are built with an "expiration date" much like cell phones so that eventually you are forced to buy a new one due to battery life, drag issues etc. Unless you build one or buy super top of the line where parts are replaceable verses disposable.

Your needs (as far as what you do online) are similar to mine and all the "extra's" aren't really necessary to just cruise the internet, do paperwork and store file/photos easily.

Check the price on the Lenovo site to compare.

Also from an certified IT perspective, Apple is the best there is because they last longer and have less viruses.

I’ve had my laptop for awhile now and I’ve still got 95% of the memory left so I personally think 12GB of RAM was more than I needed.

Well after many reviews, I went back with the Dell Inspirion which is what I had a few years ago before I quickly purchased this hp model with no touchscreen last summer. The dell has the i7 with 16gb ram. It was more costly I guess, but I really wanted touch screen and I wanted the 14 inch compact version, I think it's a 13.5 2-in-1 tablet but I plan to only use as a laptop. I'm not a tablet ipad fan. The touchscreen is much better on my carpal tunnel hands. My nephew kept telling me to upgrade to better specs if I was getting another one, never go back. Just got it yesterday so I set it up last night. I was surprised to find my Microsoft office home and student transferred. Syncing was easy with my other computer. Time will tell if I made a good choice or not!

I love my touchscreen laptop too. The one downside is ds loves it too. He is always coming over and touching the screen while I am typing but the biggest pain is when the cat does it. She will lay on my arm/ side and stretch out her paw just enough to disrupt what I am doing. lol
