When You Provide..but the Parent Wants to..

If a child has an accident or a blowout diaper I change them into clothes I provide and send the dirty clothes home as well. The parents wash the clothes that I provided and send them back. I have found that if I send home clothes that don’t belong to them they come back. I used ti have an issue when parents provided clothes and once those clothes were used I never got any back in return to use the next time there’s an accident. And I think it’s because parents recognize their own clothes and don’t think to send them back whereas if they have clothes that aren’t theirs in their laundry they will see that and return it.

In my daycare I provide everything the only thing the parent needs to provide is the child. It gets a little irritating when the parent wants to provide their own -such as diapers , clothing , wipes… For no reason other than the fact that they want to, nothing medical. I provide everything because it’s easier not to have to keep track of who’s stuff is who’s and I don’t have to remind anybody or send out reminders and hope that they remember when something runs out. Does anyone else get irritated with this if you provide things? I almost want to say they need to find a new daycare if they want to have all this control. I want to run things how I want to run things.

I have been wondering about how you provide clothing. I see clothing as a personal property thing so wonder how you handle this. If a child needs a change and go home with your clothes, do you keep theirs? Do the parents send yours back? or do you gift the clothes to the child and never expect them to return?

I am also curious about how much of each size do you keep on hand?

I have heard of providers supplying everything else but clothes is a new one to me.

It’s about control .
Just say nothing but the child is allowed unless there is a documented medical situation requiring different
If she isn’t on board with it thank her for her input and ask when their last day of care will be
I wouldn’t even entertain a concert about it
You do X. She only gets to decide if she wants to enroll (stay) under those rules.

Its definitely not because she wants to be nice or feel bad. Its more of a “mine is better than yours” situation. The diapers they want to provide are not organic or anything special. The items have the same chemicals/materials as mine. Its strange really.

I provide everything but diapers and cups. I have one parent that provides wipes because their child has sensitive skin. Otherwise, most are happy to not deal with it. At Christmas, I have one DCM that will buy me the big box of the brand of wipes that I use with a few bottles of wine. LOL

If she brings something, I would thank her and make it known that it’s going to be used for all of the DCK, not just hers. She could “feel bad” that you’re providing everything for your DCK or she could have a complex that you’re providing for her child. She could also just be nice and want to donate? I had a DCM ask if she could bring snacks/paper towels every now and then also.

I was going to suggest the same thing considerate a donation for the whole daycare not exclusive for the one child.

Gemma this one I know has sensitive skin. He’s the type that will turn red when you wipe his face, if that makes sense. LOL

But I also have two kiddos who always have rashes on their bum… from not being cleaned. It breaks my heart!

Some kids do have sensitive skin, others don't get properly cleaned after a bowel movement and parents assume they must have sensitive skin
I use unscented wipes, so far they have proven to be ok even for the kids with "sensitive skin".

I provide everything except for diapers. I have never had a parent insisting on providing their own ...I'm sure they would love for me to provide diapers too
