I was notified that DCB2 has RSV. I notified my other parents that there was a case, my husband and I did a thorough cleaning last night. I have asked families to check temperatures before coming in and I will be checking temps more often for a few weeks.

Is there anything else I can/should do? I have a DCB with asthma I absolutely don’t want to get this. In addition to that, I take great pride in having minimal illnesses spread throughout my daycare, containing pink eye to one family being one of them.

RSV is what got my group a few weeks back. It is one of those that is almost impossible to stop the spread other than parents keeping the kids home. It is really bad this year, but seems to go in rounds with several years in between outbreaks. It has been a long time since it came through here, until this year.

"People infected with RSV are usually contagious for 3 to 8 days. However, some infants, and people with weakened immune systems, can continue to spread the virus even after they stop showing symptoms, for as long as 4 weeks. Thats what I was afraid of. I alerted parents and no one mentioned keeping anyone home

If it comes to that, do I still have them pay? My payments are due regardless of attendance for illness unless they’re taking a vacation week, which requires a notice.

Yes. They pay. The infants who tend to be infectious for a long time are also the same ones who require hospitalization. RSV is generally mild, but really rough on certain infants. Toddlers and up are generally fine. 99% of the population is exposed every year. It sometimes goes unnoticed because many have such mild symptoms.

I have a child now with a runny nose and a cough. 🙄

My thermometer has him with a low grade fever, it’s a Mobi forehead reader. It’s showing 98.1, so it’ll be 99.1 and this child is usually 97.7 on that thermometer. He just threw up grapes and it was mucousy. How long would you exclude for??

My policy is 24 hour symptom free without medication. Some providers have a 48 hour policy if they have to be sent home.

I will say, I should change my policy to say they cannot attend the next day. I had a parent take the 24 hours literal one time and it was annoying.

I do my usual 48 hours minimum if sent home and 24 hours symptom free without meds.
