  • Favorite Science Experiments for Children

I’m a lead teacher for 3.5 to 4 year olds and science is one of my favorite activities to do with the kids. Kids are little explorers and curious by nature and they love to try and see what happens when we experiment. This year we’ve done baking soda/vinegar, sink or float, elephant toothpaste, gravity in a bottle, and more. I thought I’d make a topic where we science lovers could share ideas.

It might also be a good idea to start a social group on science activities.

Liquefaction and thermodynamics of substrates (sand, silt, dirt, aquarium gravel, pebbles, etc.) It is always so much fun. Use different types of substrates, build different types of small structures, different sizes/weights/shapes of objects. Shake, shake, shake. Compare before after temps and note which buildings or object sank first. Were the results the same with each substrate? Why?

My boys love the one where you take a water bottle place viniger in the bottle. Then take a ballon with baking soda in it. Attach it to bottle top without tipping it in. Then once it's on lift the ballon up and let the baking soda fall into bottle. The result from the viniger and baking soda miking causes the ballon to blow up.

Also is walking water. Where you add a bit of food coloring to cups. Put a pice of fold paper towel in each and the water will traspher over to an empty cup. They like doing it with multiple cups to also see ot change colours.

I love the balloon inflating experiment. I’ve done this one many times and the kids love it.
