  • Luvs Diapers

Has anyone had any problems with Luvs diapers recently?

I have one family that uses them. Two days in a row, the child has come in and within 1.5-2 hours of being here, the child is leaking. It also happened today with the sibling. Woke up from nap soaked. I may stand corrected on my statement yesterday that the parents didn’t change the child’s overnight diaper.

I used Luvs briefly but the “lite” scent they have broke both of my DD out in a rash but I never had any issues with them leaking overnight, during nap or anytime throughout the day.

In all my years in this business I've never felt one brand of diapers was better or worse than another. Certain kids do better with certain diapers but I've had generic to ultra premium high end diapers and in the end, they all do what they need to do. I think whether a diaper leaks or not has more to do with the child than the diaper. Some kids urinate more frequently and some urinate less but more in quantity. So I don't know... to me they are literally all the same.

In checking out reviews, they are not a favorite. I have not seen one in many years, now. I personally prefer Parents Choice, now. Before that, White Cloud was my favorite.

PC was a great brand! Unfortunately my youngest has sensitive skin and broke out while using those too 😩

My niece uses the Kroger brand as they always have coupons and deals on them. Whatever is the most economical as like CH said, they do the job they are supposed to do.

I don’t care about the brand honestly. I just want to figure out why this keeps happening and my assumption was the diaper brand.

That was my next question, with DCK being nearly 3, how do I approach potty training with the parents? I don’t potty train, to me it’s the parents responsibility. But I’m sending clothes home daily because of the leaks they’re having. Then the parents don’t bring extra clothes the next day and it’s a whole thing. 🙃

Is the diaper sized wrong for the child? I find parents want to squeeze their kids into too small of a diaper.
p.s. I HATE THOSE STRETCH PANTS THAT LOOK LIKE JEANS.

Learning how to use the toilet is part of the daily curriculum. I would take them at normal scheduled potty breaks with the other kids and any time they ask. Nothing more, nothing less. I won't "potty train" like most parents want (taking every hour, reminding, letting them wear cloth, ect). I don't reward or punish. They go or don't, I don't care, they are still in diapers, anyway so no skin off my nose. Pretty much the same as with meals, eat or don't, I just make it possible.

Once they ask to go to the toilet on their own consistently and have no accidents for two weeks in my care, I send home a "Congrats" certificate that means they can wear cloth in my home. I can't tell you how many times the parents are shocked by it because they have not "even started" at home.

Can’t stand those pants either. I wish parents would just send their kids in sweat pants and move on! I have one in jeans every day. They’re loose fitting, but they can’t be comfortable for him.

The diaper size was definitely an issue about 3 weeks ago. Both kids went up a size. It’s still happening, only in the mornings. Which is why I was lead to believe the parents weren’t changing their overnight diapers. Parents say they change them.

Have you checked them upon arrival? Are they wet when they arrive, even slightly?

Alwaysgreener this isn’t an excuse but all of my kiddos will arrive at the exact time so I get busy and distracted and forget to check.

Alwaysgreener I can’t imagine a parent not changing a child at all overnight, but I know it’s not impossible either!

So DCM came in today, the child had pooped on the way and she changed her in front of me. Guess what… NO LEAKS this morning. I’ll be checking from now on upon arrival and mentioning what another poster said about potty training.

I provide diapers, so the very first thing I do is change them into a clean one, wash hands and have them go to the breakfast table. Fresh start, every time. I usually change their street clothes on arrival, anyway, for the activities of the day. I change them back into their clean clothing for going home time. Makes things run smoother for me.

Cat Herder may I ask why you change their clothes? Do parents know that you change their clothing? I’m intrigued. I have a child (same family actually) that typically comes in smelling like cat urine and moldy laundry.

Luvs aren't my favorite- yes, I have had them leak and have seen more rashes with that brand over others.
But yes, I agree that it sounds like a size and age problem. Especially if the child likes to drink/eat a lot.

I'd probably approach it as the child needing a "more sanitary" option for daycare. Then suggest either starting to potty train at home or move to a more suitable options then give some examples (maybe even an overnight brand if he's a heavy wetter).
