A very similar situation happened to me yesterday. My second to last DCP picks up at 5:05 and I see my last DCP pulling up. I waited, but no one came to the door. I look at my cameras at 5:08 to see DCP are talking to each other on the sidewalk (they’re related) I said, “Oh look DCK! Your DCP is here!!!” DCK run to the door and look out, very excited to see DCP. I open the door and walked DCK down to DCP. Came back in, shut my door (so they could see they’re the last ones picking up) and clocked out at 5:10.

    • My grandbaby was visiting me yesterday. While I was holding her the DCK's were asking me questions about her.
One of the DCG's asked me if I was grandbaby's mom.

I said "No, I am the grandma"

DCG said "You can't be the grandma."

      I asked "Why not?"

DCG said "You aren't old. You can only be a grandma if you are old"

I have a new favorite DC kid.

I was reading a book to one of my dc kids a few years back. As I read, she snuggled into my lap and absent-mindedly started to rub the skin at the base of my throat. At one point, she sighed, looked into my eyes and very sweetly said, "Old people are so soft!" She WAS one of my favorite dc kids right up to that point! I like your dc kid better!! lol

    • School started this week and was closed for a week and a half for vacation, reopening on Wed. I have 2 pt SAKids, one just started K and the other is in 4th. On Wed the K rode the bus to my house instead of going home with grandma. (I think she missed me)

Today DCB went looking for Grandma instead of getting on the bus to come to my home.

Grandma just started working for the school, she works the sidewalk helping kids in and out of cars at the pick-up/drop-off line. So after she found DCB waiting for her, she gave me a text to let me know he was not going to be on the bus. DCG did not know what happened to her brother when she arrived although she did not look that worried either.

When DCD showed up, I assumed he knew what happened, but found out otherwise that Grandma never let him know.

      • Well since I've hit 50 and even a little before, I have ear drops, eye drops, nose spray, unker's salve for my joints, etc. but I've newly found interest in aspercreme today.....REALLY helps my hands.....I have carpel tunnel really bad and hurts up my arm to my elbow.....I sleep in braces for both arms with my thumb specifically stabilized but this aspercreme is awesome.....not sure how many more sprays, drops, creams I may need but as long as it works, right???

If I'm correct you are up to nine and a half hours per child no matter what time they're dropped off. How do you keep track of who needs to be picked up when?

I open at 6 so if you drop off at 6, you pick up by 3:30....Most do not arrive until 7:30 or after.

        • I am looking at my camera when I see my PITA DCP pull up.

DCP: *tries to open the door, realizes it’s locked, proceeds to stand on the porch.*
          DCP: *still standing there*
          DCP: *tries door again*

*Dog hears the click and starts barking*

Me: *opening the door* Oh hey, sorry DCP! I didn’t hear the doorbell ring.

          DCP: That’s okay, I didn’t ring it!

          Me:

What I should’ve said: I know. I watched you stand there for 45 seconds before trying a second time to open a locked door.

GirlMomma Yes you do if you have wireless kind. There is also wired ring that you replace your original doorbell with. In my case I don't have a door bell at that door so I went wireless and have to charge.

In the winter time it wouldn't hold a charge and no one ever rang it so I just don't charge it, also deleted the app. The button fell off too.

It came in handy the first week installed, It recorded a dcd telling Dcg that she wouldn't have to eat at DC since she wasn't feeling well. She got sent home at the door but I didn't see the recording until days later when I realized that it may have recorded something.

            🤣

We have a trained Belgian Malinois and he’s a guard dog. Very protective breed regardless. It wouldn’t be in anyones best interest to walk in, lol. The one time it has happened, our dog was away for training thankfully. I try to keep doors locked though for a few reasons, my dog is one of them.

MissCait RIGHT! I’ve been locking this door for
MONTHS. I don’t know why she tries it anymore.

        • I’m closed one day this week. Invoices for a lesser amount were emailed this past weekend.

Family 1: Pays monthly, has likely forgotten about the closure.

Families 2/3: Paid the reduced balance.

Families 4/5: Paid their regular balance, they now have credits on their accounts for overpayment.

What would you do? Remind Families 1/4/5 of the closure? Or wait until they show up to drop off the morning I’m closed?

          I am (half) kidding

          • New dcf asked for clarification about sending treats for Halloween party. The newsletter was specific (listed the favorite affordable treats and some non food treat ideas). Our group is 6 kids. So they can buy a box of individual goldfish or some play doh and it’s less than $5!

new dcm asks ‘ohhhhh… you want ME to provide it!’. I was tired and a little snarky so I laughed and said ‘yea. That’s why it says “what to bring” not ‘what I’m providing’ 🙄. She sighs and says okay .

some people Wish they could just throw money at things. Next time I’ll say $10 each and I’ll buy the treats lol

            • Posting here because it's funny in a ridiculous way lol

I had a dcm tell me this morning that she has a lot of toys to get rid of. Said she doesn't know what to do with them and someone told her that the daycare center in our town is always looking for toys.

I just thought it was funny that she mentioned THAT daycare, but didn't think of the one that her child goes to. Ya know...mine

This is also the same dcm that when the center was doing a fundraiser, she told me "I mean, they have to pay for everything themselves. I'm sure that's a lot of money." Ya think?! Like I don't have to buy everything myself?!

            • Our trees have been trimmed back and as they grow back out the limbs/leaves are sagging downward as they are tender and struggling a little. Well, Yesterday as dcb3 was leaving he turned around and said, "hey, ms, xxx, why are your trees upside down". In a way that was a really smart thought. I have laughed every time I think about it.

            • It's not often that parents can pull a new one on me, after all these decades.
But a parent of a 3 yr old (also had her 7 yr old from birth to kindy) wanted to have 'the nap talk.'
I'm thinking, Oh crap, he just turned three and still needs a nap!
But no! She wants me to make sure he sleeps longer 🤯
I mean, it's a nice change from the usual, but will you tell me how to Make him sleep longer?

By the way, she wanted her daughter to nap less, before she was three.

              • DCG says something about her mom's boyfriend, S. I ask if S is her friend. She says "no he is not DS."

I told DCM, and she says that dcg was playing and she turned to S and said "DS, look at.." paused then said, "S look at.."

                • One of my DCK age 3 calls short sleeves “up sleeves” and long sleeves “down sleeves” and I don’t have the heart to correct her because it’s so cute. ❤️

She also calls polka dots “coca-dots” because she thinks they are miniature coconuts

                • I've been singing "Wash your hands...Wash, washy wash, washy wash your hands. Scrub em' while you sing this song.", in Elmo's voice, in my head, for over 12 hours. now. When should I call a doctor?

                  Pray for me.

My email is flooded with " Advocating for ECE" and "Get your CDA" newsletters.

                  Good one.

Just remember I spent well over 30 years, total, in a firehouse.... I know about some truly terrifying email subscription newsletters.

"Advocacy groups are looking for answers as the child care crisis mounts. A chronic shortage of child care across the U.S. had curbed the economy’s growth even before COVID-19 swept the country in 2020—and the pandemic just worsened the problem. "

Yep. Ok. Sure, that's what caused everyone to quit and find a better field to work in.

I'm not sure the shortage is the complete problems; there are too many parents that received that 20 month free daycare pay and they mis-managed their money and now either can't or don't want to pay.??

I don't use that email for daycare. I get all my spam, sales and daycare related stuff on another account.

No worries, my bet is a more local prankster who has a similar sense of humor to me. Recently shut doors and is vehemently enjoying being done.
