My youngest son, you know?; the one who was gonna be a 'gamer' cause you can make money doing that , ya know??? Well, we are 'eyeing' the accouning-field now per his visit with his counselor for classes for his senior year......it seems his math/science/chemistry field is 'excelling'. so he's not crazy about the 'extra' college classes but I told him 'vocational' schools bypass most of that stuff and he can do 'accounting' there as well.....we shall see!!!! Either way, he is 'thinking' now about other things than gaming. Yes; he is also interested in the farm with horses, in particular, so maybe he can have a horse business.

In 2019 QRIS extended our rating in MI 6 months. Moving my renewal from my busy summer to February but making it closer to my license renewal. This year they extended our rating a year, making it the opposite year. The bad news is they are updating and tightening the rules on it so I may not renew/qualify for as many points the next time. The good news is that I am gaining recommendations and being the top-listed daycare on the state site will not be as important come 2023.
Also, my ds will be entering school fall of 2023, giving me the opportunity and freedom to choose to continue or do something else that gives me more freedom to be there for my kids.

Even if your rating goes down, you will still get calls based on your current clients, no worries. Parents don't like that stuff near as much as the states would like us to believe. Mine dropped to the lowest recently because I don't accept subsidy, something new they added to our ratings. If something like that, that has nothing to do with actual performance, can do that the ratings lose their credibility, anyway. It makes it very obviously about politics and federal funding for them. Don't stress. Enjoy your year ahead.

yeah, it is all a sad tangled web. If I let my rating drop then my subsidy rate drops, if that drops then I will not be able to afford to take foster dc kids. Which is the whole reason why I agreed to join. --- No the parents around here think that the star rating for us is client feedback base. My dc having 3 out of 5 stars is better than the dc that has 2 stars. So I am always explaining that it is what I am willing to do, brush teeth, conferences, newsletters, extra classes... I have already argued that they should not of used stars, they should have used hearts or child shapes.

It's been pretty sunny here lately but it's only been in the upper 50ies/lowere 60ies but the forecast for next week here is suppose to in the 80ies! A quick and sudden change!
I'd prefer we gradually get warmer verses it being so quick. But I will not complain! lol! Glad you are finally seeing the sun down there!! It's gets so depressing and sad when it's dreary and gray out!

90's for us this weekend......not sure if I'm ready for that but we do go to the river for Memorial Day weekend so time for the water sports so maybe the temps will warm the river quickly!

It was a long grey spell, here, but it has been beautiful here all week. I will be griping about the extreme heat and humidity soon enough, don't worry about that. I am happy that we did not get any of the brood X that was expected, at least not so far. Next up, mosquitos.

Congratulations!!! I fully understand the relief of finally being done with the public school grind. The years after went faster than I would have liked, but I have not missed school functions and schedules on iota.

          Hi old friends!

I have been on a long hiatus.
I quit my job for my "dream job"...which turned out to be a sh!t-show. I am no longer working there and now I can come back and say hello to y'all!

Thanks everyone! It's crazy to see the forum has changed
Thank you for the welcome back!
I am REALLY glad I took the opportunity. I learned a lot, but most of all, I would have always wondered and regretted it if I hadn't taken it. I'm really happy now, I have a wonderful job that is low stress. It's close to home.

My youngest kid starts kindergarten in the fall.
I got some sad news that today is our favorite daycare teacher's last day!

            Gemma,
I am actually the weird one that hangs out on the forum that doesn't work in daycare! I work in business management/accounting. I landed here on the forum 6 years ago when my son was injured in an accident at daycare and just liked you guys so I hung around. I love the opportunity to see things from the perspective of the lovely souls who are taking care of my kids while I work.

Re-arranging my daycare; partly for a change and partly to save from some falls. I have the interlocking mats which is great but the play-throw-rugs have to go. Mom and I just don't pick our feet up like we used to. Also, since we have a new assessment instrument, we don't need to 'count' everything so 'less is more' in my eyes....loving my new shelves....looks much more open and clean now. The old assessment led to an overwhelming atmosphere as it was about materials.......slowly getting into a groove for my preschool setup beginning in September.....staying in summer-mode until then. Have my new grant materials in my basement so excited about that, too.

Some days I look around hoping to come up with a way to change things but there really isn't one. I'm stuck with the way things are, all I can do when I'm bored is change the kids LOL
I turned down every single grant, I couldn't believe how many different calls from different people/organizations I received in the last year and 1/2, it's like they didn't want to take NO for an answer, and that made me question why they were trying so hard to throw "Free Money" at me

I applied for the grants but I still found it weird how many emails I got about applying. But it probably has something to do with what CH said in another thread, the program benefits from giving the grants.

The main reason for me to apply was the money I got to give to my essential workers.

My grants were coming before covid...the money I got has nothing to do with the pandemic!

Yesterday, I had a mom give me an extra $50 cash with her payment for myself. Of course I used it to order more outdoors toys for the kiddos. LOL She has been late a few times. I’ve never said anything or charged her a late fee because it’s not exactly a habit, so she felt the need to give me a little extra to make her feel better for being late.

It feels so good to be appreciated & thought of. That is what keeps me going most days!

I gave out all of the "time to move on" letters early yesterday, dealt with the blow back until closing time and today am reveling in the silent treatment. I have such a sense of relief it will soon be peaceful here once again. Moving big kids on is always so stressful, no matter how hard you work to prepare them, the parents almost always leave mad. They want to extend the stay well past their childs developmental needs for their own comfort. I will never understand it. Some kids do well in small group, others are stifled by it. It isn't personal, it is about what is in the kids' individual best interest. Introverts/Extrovert's.

I won't have to do it again for at least two years. I feel so refreshed, now. I am enjoying planning curriculum for next year, now.

Can you explain what ages you provide for? Is it personal preference based on experience?

Aw, this makes me sad that they get mad at you. It is really hard as a parent because you become so connected with your child's care provider, it is really hard to move on, especially when both parent and child haven't really ever explored anything else. It is hard at first, but they will soon realize it was for the best and that their child is ready for the next step!

GM, I start with newborns and move them up based on whether or not I can continue to meet their changing needs within their current group. I try to keep those whose needs are better met in a smaller group longer (autism, sensory issues, introverts, medical/physical issues, etc.) vs. those who will thrive in the larger groups that many of our local centers offer. I am the only legal home provider in my town, there are not many local resources available for those children. I usually keep them until 6. For example: I move up a preschool child who is outgoing, athletic, who needs more space to run and climb because I believe his needs will be better matched in a larger center with more room, more active children and freedom than in my small space with infants and higher needs children in the same group. Usually, this is the child who is exhibiting frustration and is spending more time being redirected than actually playing because the other children demand so much of my attention and there is no one else their age/stage to play with. I can read them like a book, they tell me when it is time for a change of environment. Both sets of children benefit from these decisions, but that does not make it any easier to do.

Enjoyed my 4 1/2 days on the water but needed more time...it turned off cold until the last two days so we come home this morning. Grilling at my moms with family around the pool so that works, too!

While I was gone I did choose one day for 2 1/2 hours to sit at the pool BY MYSELF!!!!! Just had to do it this year.....needed more but I will take that....also did a lot of walking ALONE!!!!!

That sounds amazing. We had to cancel ours, again, so it will be another 5 months before I get a break. But that means my debt plan is 1 years further along than I planned, silver linings.
