  • Changing Eating Habits

I have a 2YO that recently changed eating habits. Used to, I could put anything in front of this child and he’d eat. Now, he just picks at it or refuses it entirely. There has also been a change in the child’s sleeping habits. The child wakes up frequently in the middle of the night and wants to take long naps here.

DCP has also noticed the eating habits change at home. They asked me about it (if he does it here) and when I agreed I noticed the change too, they went onto to say she they aren’t concerned. 🤔

This has been going on for about 6 weeks or so.

It may be a stage they are going through or it may be something else.
    1) What does the child eat for breakfast, morning snack (if you offer it), lunch & afternoon snack?
    2) What does the child eat at home as far as meals? (Breakfast, lunch & supper plus snacks)
    3) Is the child gluten free or do they have a food allergy?

      1) I believe he eats cookies on the car on the way here & rejects morning snack here

      2) Lunch is a protein with a whole grain, fruit, veggie and yogurt or milk. He picks at everything; usually leaving the veggies.

At supper I believe DCP usually makes a sandwich, pizza or lately they’ve been trying things I make here at lunch since I serve a wide variety. I don’t know how much he eats at home hut I know that it raised enough concern for DCP to ask me about it but then say she isn’t concerned.

      3) No, I’ve had this child since an infant

Snack in the afternoon is usually the same, he’ll refuse it entirely or pick.

Ask parents if they can get him either pediasure or the carnation instant breakfast packets for him to drink or if you can and its not to time consuming (i know everyone's daycare schedule is different) try to add more calories to his food like extra cheese, extra butter and extra condiments (its called the packing diet you can google it) because he may be failure to thrive if he's not getting everything in his diet and may be losing weight without anyone seeing it and it may be a sensory issue as well and he may be sensitive to the textures of the food

Thank you! I will suggest that to the parents too if they ask anymore. I made homemade bagel bites for lunch today and he devoured those and his peas. DCP is at the doctor now with the child. I think they realized it could become an issue if it goes on too long, thankfully!! They’re not usually ones to take their kid to the doctor for anything.

Hey GirlMomma what did the parents find out about their child? Did they try what I suggested?

She said the doctor said it was a phase. They said they give both kids the Pediasure - big brother is very tiny compared to the child I am referring to.

DCK is finally back to eating/sleeping normal again! 🙏🏽
