  • Tantrum Advice

Have a 3.5yo girl who throws tantrums. Long screaming meltdowns over anything. For hours.

Yesterday she woke up from nap cranky and screaming. Today was because she didn't want to wait to go outside. There is not a real trigger. Anything can set her off.

I have tried everything I can think of. Ignoring. Calming corner with popits and soft things to cuddle. Calling her mom. Many other things.

I'd rather not term, but in the year I've had her, there is no real improvement. Mom says she throws them at ho e as well. Mom bribes her. (I've even tried that too. Doesn't help)

    Suggestions?

That is way too old for that behavior. I'd demand an evaluation.

Oh, if the behavior was something that began suddenly, be sure that they also rule out PANDAS. https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/pandas

If it is just from Permissive Parenting and lack of discipline, terming is the only answer since only the parents can fix it. If they don't get it under control before public school, they will have one tough road ahead of them.

I'm 99% sure this is the problem. Kid doesn't sleep well because she's up at night watching TV. Dad has said if she cries, mom will go in and comfort her (opposed to being firm and putting her back to bed.)

I thought I'd gotten through the tantrum stage, as last summer she barely had any from May to October. But they are back and I'm at my wits end.

Any suggestions or articles to give to mom to help at home?

Be sure to use the words "Preschool-aged" instead of "toddler". Parents like to rationalize bad behavior with "but they're toddlers". If they are over 2, they are not toddlers. Sometimes, just making that clarification click, parents start getting on board. .
