  • Vomitting guidelines?

If a child threw up at 9 AM at your daycare and they get picked up to go home. Are they allowed to come back the next day if let’s say that was the only time they threw up? I say 24hrs no vomitting, but i think i need to explain it more like “If your child threw up TODAY they cant come TOMORROW”.

I always use this form when sending children home for any exclusionary symptom.
It lists EARLIEST date a child can return to care.
I do agree they need to stay home the following day and not count actual hours.

FWIW I don't care if they threw up 2 minutes after drop off or 2 minutes before pick up, they can not attend the next day.

Thank you for the forms, they definitely provided some law and order. I appreciate you

We also say that a child sent home TODAY cannot return TOMORROW. PLUS 24 hrs after any at-home symptoms clear up. If they say there were no further symptoms at home, the earliest they can return still includes that gap day.

They have to stay home the next day here too.

If I have to send them home, it is a minimum of 48 hours out plus 24 hours without symptoms or medications.

No matter what they were sent home for.

The 24/48 hour rule is THE best piece of advice I've gotten from this board!

More providers need to adopt it to save sanity and to stop the constant cycle of illnesses.

Love this, but how do you explain the logic to parents?

I don't explain it. It is simply the policy. It begins with "Do not bring sick children to daycare. Please do a health check prior to coming to daycare. Children sent home sick are expected to be picked up immediately and not to return until 48 hours symptom and fever-free without medication. Children kept home sick must be fever and symptom-free for 24 hours before return to care." There is a blurb about being respectful of both my and the other family's health, team effort, community... you get the drift. It costs them time to be neglectful or deceitful. It also says sending a kid to daycare while on fever-reducing medication will result in immediate termination. My policy has always been this strict. I started with cardiac and renal care.
