  • Daylight Savings Time... HELP!

I've got this DCK who is a little over a year old. DCK typically takes two naps a day. This past week has been hell for me and for her. She just cries and cries. I go in and get her after about 20 minutes of crying and then I try to lay her down again an hour later. I've also tried on different days laying her down for her nap earlier. No use. When I give up and pick her up, she wants held. She is a mess. She is pushy and aggressive with the other kids in care. TGIF

I guess time will fix this. But man, it is hard to be a part of! My thing is...MY baby who is 9 months is perfectly fine. I've adjusted her naps and she has done wonderfully after maybe a half day of difficulty.

It might not have anything to do with the time change at all and may just need to make the change to one nap per day.
I transition all my kiddos to one nap per day around 12 months.

I was going to say the same thing. This may be a great time to have her make the transition to one nap. I make sure the kids and I go outside before nap, too. The fresh air and exercise tires them out. We go outside to play, come in for lunch and then nap. The one year olds turn over and go right to sleep as soon as I put them in their cribs.

I start to transition infants from 2 naps down to 1 around 12 months.
The time change probably has nothing to do with what's going on. It's probably just time for a sleep schedule change.

All excellent ideas! And it seems pretty unanimous that this dcg should be transitioning to one nap a day. DCM, however, wants the naps to continue twice a day. I told her I'm going to try. My ds napped twice a day until he was around 2, so I get it. But I need to remember that the only way my ds napped was because I nursed him to sleep and laid next to him. It was not quality time for me. It was draining and I felt trapped. DCM seems pretty reasonable so far in our relationship. So I will do my best to get two naps in. But I won't feel bad about it when the expectation slowly unravels. Honestly, this dck's personality is very dominant and demanding. I will miss that second nap! lol

I have a dcb that still does two naps at home but one here. He throws things off when I have to give him a morning nap and he was never tired enough to take a pm nap, so I just stop giving him two. When they ask I say he napped well and nothing more.

Alwaysgreener I'm already too specific about the nap times to go that route. I'm just gonna have to say "Hey, I tried. It didn't work." Eventually, I bet she will stop expecting the second nap to happen. One thing I've figured out about myself as a mom is that I can be all about something with my kids one month and two months down the road, I just shrug at that old expectation.
