Is Anyone Concerned About Monkeypox?

Guest repliedTo be honest, this question worries me. But there is no panic yet.

I agree; the only one you can control is yourself. When the pandemic first started, so many people were dying in hospitals, alone without being able to say goodbye to loved ones and with no one there to comfort them. It freaked me out to think of my husband or kids going through that alone. I still don't want any of us to get Covid because we don't know how we'll be affected by it but I'm a little less worried about it now than I was at first. Just hoping the vaccinations and booster work the way they should if any of us do get it. So far, so good.
I haven't been as freaked out about Monkey Pox as I was about Covid, although I was watching something on tv this morning where they showed a picture of a MP patient who had the sores in his mouth and throat and apparently couldn't talk or swallow without being in a lot of pain. More than ever, I do not want to get this virus. ICK!

Right now, here the person affected quarantines 5 days but no one else is required to quarantine.....we just let them know so they make their own choice.....so life seems to be moving on better this time. Until I get further guidance in my state, and I don't expect to, I will stick with this analogy. I do believe it is real as my aunt is living proof of that, but I also refuse to allow myself to go where I was 2020-21. I can ONLY control myself and I got into too many issues with family, daycare, church, etc. and I was only hurting myself.....

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I'm fine with a mask mandate. I'm fully vaccinated and boosted but still wear a mask during daycare hours and when I'm out in public. I hate getting sick and can't really afford it so it's an easy enough thing to do to help prevent it. If it works for monkey pox, all the better as far as I'm concerned. I haven't missed not getting the stomach bug for the past couple of years or Strep or colds... ;-)
From what I hear, Covid is still affecting daycares in this state, even though I think we currently have fewer cases than most states right now. (It sounds like we may be on the way up again, though.) There are still providers asking for current Covid policies because they have kids who have been called out sick because they or their family members have tested positive.

One thing is DIFFERENT for me this time......i'm in a better mental state this go-around and better prepared where my own and extended family's are concerned.

Covid, monkey pox, whatever else, we have an inverted yield curve again so that usually indicates a recession is coming. If I’d prepare for and be worried about anything, it would be this. We have survived them before, but I don’t know about this one. And just stating that as in, I can’t predict the future, not stating some impending doom. It’s just good to prepare. It means we are weak too and susceptible to things cyber attacks and such.

Yeah, I haven't heard this either til he told me but I do know 8 counties here are pushing the mask mandate again due to covid so I do think this is all political at this point. Covid levels are high here but the strain seems less severe and mostly in children. Many daycares are affected right now??

I'd want to know more about the person who told your brother the government is trying to close down because of monkey pox or especially because of elections. I'd also want to know where he got that information before I gave it any serious thought. Sounds pretty suspect to me. I can't find any reference to a shutdown anywhere I've looked online. (Not that I'm all that great at online searches! lol) I'd be very surprised to see shutdowns happen again.

FYI....one of my bros has a cleaning business across the south east and he has been grounded with the exception of a few places with very little travel since covid. He got a call to go east this morning and was told he better take all the cleaning jobs he could get cause the government is trying to close down due to monkeypox but more so due to the 'elections' coming?? My state, I feel, will fight the closing down as they fought the covid closings as well. So do NOT want to go there again! But I'm much better with my mindset if we do.....

A childcare provider in my state posted this on FB today: https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/22/healt...6ihCFeC5WHgFWU
The first case showed up in our state in May. We're up to 80 cases now, with 30 just diagnosed in the past month. It isn't spreading anywhere near as quickly as Covid and doesn't seem to be as deadly, but it does seem to be picking up in terms of spread. I'm still not losing sleep over it but I am paying attention. It's definitely not a virus I want to experience firsthand if I can help it!

I guess if people are out killing monkeys now for no reason in fear of this virus, I’d understand. Otherwise… sarcasm is in order…
Monkey’s must have taken a poll and most are offended by the name. Their feelings on this matter too. I’m so glad these brilliant scientists have time to spend on these types of things vs other issues going on…

Wait if they rename monkey pox, then what about chicken pox??
